Just got back from a 3-night stay at the Almonsa Playa. We decided to grab a cheap deal somewhere to celebrate the end of uni exams and booked these apartments. There were 6 of us in total and we got a 2 bedroomed apartment. Because of the price (we paid around £20 each for 3 nights!) we weren't really expecting much but we were quite suprised when we got there. The apartment was basic, but was plenty big enough for 6 of us, even when the sofa beds were pulled out in the lounge area. The kitchen only had a 2 ring hob so this might be a bit of a problem if you wanted to cook meals, but this was fine for us as we ate out everyday. The bathroom proved to be a bit of a problem as the hot water seemed to run out after one person had a shower - so 5 of us ended up having cold showers every night!
Our flights to Salou were affected by the volcanic ash, so we arrived a day late. We managed to change the days at the hotel no problem to accomodate our changed return flight to the uk. The reception staff were very pleasant and helpful. There was a snack bar which was reasonably priced and we got snacks there during the day. The pool was ok, but very cold! We found we were the only people at the pool on the days we were there, which was a bit of a shock, but the apartments in general seemed very quiet and under-occupied as we hardly saw anyone else there in the 3 days when we were there.
Now for the location - it was excellent for what we were looking for. There were a couple of little supermarkets outside of the apartments which had the basics for a self catering stay. The beach was lovely and was only a couple of minutes walk down the road, and had lots of bars/restaurants which we found ourselves at in the evenings. The apartments are also next door to Snoepy's nightclub which is very popular with Spanish teenagers. From our block we couldn't hear any noise from the club, but people in the other blocks may have heard some noise from there as they were nearer. Other clubs/bars such as KISS, Christies, 007 etc are all really close by, no more than a 5 minute walk. Salou has a good nightlife with a variety of different bars/clubs to suit all ages. There is a takeaway called Ickey's opposite the apartments which we thought had closed down because it never seemed to be open when we went past, but on our last night after getting the munchies after a few too many drinks we were told that was the only place that was open, bemused we went there on the way back to the apartment and there was a man stood outside taking orders, with the whole place looking like it was still shut. He said if we paid the money first he would get our food for us. We honestly thought it was some kind of scam, but then a group of the PR people for the clubs (mainly Brits) came and were getting thier usual orders, so we thought we'd chance it. Good food and reasonably priced aswell, the usual takeaway stuff pizzas, burgers, kebabs etc, but i've got no idea what time they 'open' or anything, but its not a scam so if you get the munchies then try there!
Overall we had a great time and would go back again to these apartments, great value for money considering the great location!
