We stayed at the Apartments Arquus in July 05, the apartments are in four separate buildings Arquus 1,2,3 & 4 on Carlos Buigas, we had booked Arquus 2 and were dropped off by the taxi with our luggage, (as we were a party of 11 we had quite a lot) there is no reception in the apartments as they share a check in office near Arquus 1 this was a few hundred yards down the road after a long wait and lots of confusion it seemed that our apartments were overbooked and we were to stay at Arquus 1, so we had to walk back to fetch the rest of our party(including 6 children) & luggage which was fun down busy streets and across busy roads with arms full of luggage & children.
The apartments are in a great place, very central, handy for shops, buses, bars e.t.c not far to go for the beach in all a good location, a bit noisy day and night right into the small hours , but this being Salou you should expect this.
Our apartments(we had 2 rooftop apartments next door to each other) were very dated it was very 70s or early 80s not the cleanest place but not terrible, apart from the fridge/freezer which had been left off & closed for some time in a very hot kitchen IT STANK !! , we had a very large sun terrace outside this was handy but like the rest of the place ready for updating, all in all not fantastic but there was plenty of room and once we had cleaned up & freshened up the fridge it did make a good base for our holiday.
The rest of the building was better and seemed well maintained and clean.
The pool area and the pool was very clean always seemed to be a maintenance guy knocking around cleaning weeding etc, quite a nice figure eight pool with bridge & seperate kiddie pool , great except they were a bit strict about no balls or inflatables in the pool and went as far as putting up a sign warning about a fine system for offenders 10 or 20 euros I think, a bit ott !!
The Arquus has its faults, confusing check in, dated, etc but if you get a good deal like we did you could do a lot worse !!
Salou is a great place for kids & fun loving adults, great beaches loads of nightlife, and of course Universals PORTADVENTURA is reason enough to go on its own, with tickets on sale on plenty of sites for 3,7,or 14 days for not much more than a daypass on the gates.plenty more to do with nearby AQUAPOLIS well worth a visit large water park with plenty of big slides, wave pool etc & superb free dolphin & sealion shows.
