“lovely hotel, shame about the room”

Hotel Best Punta Dorada, cap salou.

This is a lovely hotel in a perfect setting in a quiet part of salou. The views are stunning and the local buses stop at the top of the street so you have plenty of options. Nice food and friendly staff. The only down side is the room we were allocated. This was at the back of the hotel, a family room which was unsuitable for us as a couple and overlooking scrub land and residential flats. It has a high solid breeze block wall for child safety. We were allocated this room by the UK travel company, one of the leading brands. please be very careful if you are considering this hotel that you get one of the lovely rooms at the front of the hotel.

“excellent value for money”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 August 2008

I stayed here for a week from 22nd August with my mother and daughter and we were all extremely impressed with this hotel. The hotel is set in a quiet part of Cap Salou opposite its sister hotel (Negresso). It is owned by the Best Hotels group. We did not pay for a sea view/pool view but that is exactly what we were given. There are around 2/3 rooms on each floor which seems to look at the apartments behind but we were lucky enough to be given a lovely sized room which had a lovely view. The room has air conditioning, a fridge and 2 double beds. You could also hire the in room safe for a week. The television channels were the normal European channels plus CNN. The housekeeping was excellent with fresh towels provided daily. We stayed at this hotel on a half board basis and I have to say the food was excellent. Breakfast consisted of a hot buffet, cold buffet and a seperate chef who cooked fried eggs or pancakes to order. There was a plentiful supply of fruit and yoghurts and hot drinks and juices. The hotel also provided cava every morning which was enjoyed by most of the resident guests. The evening meals were a pleasure. There was lots of choice including king prawns and again a chef cooking various meat and fish dishes to order. The drinks in this hotel were quite reasonably priced at the sangria was amazing. The bar staff were very obliging and it was lovely sitting in the bar at the end of the day. There was little entertainment in the evening but if you wanted a livelier evening then you could pop over to the sister hotel over the road. We didnt do this as we were happier sitting in the quieter bar in our hotel.

If you wanted a livelier evening then you could take the ten minute walk into the Cap Salou centre which had a few restaurants and bars but the highlight for us was the bus service provided which was a short walk from the hotel. Buses run (Not sure if only during summer peak times) frequently and for 24 hours a day so for a couple of Euros you could go into the main part of Salou. We greatly enjoyed Salou but were glad to be able to jump on a bus at the end of the day/ night to go back to our nice quiet hotel.

If I am ever going to look to come back to this area again I would definately book this hotel as it had the best location with excellent facilities

“Quiet, great beaches, good hotel”

Stayed with family 4 Adults and 2 kids (10+11) for 2 weeks half board.

Hotel was great Id say 3 star rather than 4, rooms clean and daily maid service kept them that way. Pool smaller than we normally expect but no problems getting space around the pool and never over crowded. Other residents mostly French, German. Was having problems with the lift during our stay.

Breakfasts great, cant fault at all, even the coffee was strong.Evening meals, a lot of fish, pork and veal which was great for adults. Kids sometimes struggled to find something they would choose. Although they did enjoy what was choosen for them, or when they plucked up the courage to get something fresh from the grill. Can understand why food may not be to everyones taste.

Short stroll to nearest beach/coves, excellent sand and shallow slopping so no problems here.

Recommend PortAventura, try friday/saturdays much less packed then the tuesday we also went. Take the chance to see some of the shows as well actually very good, especially if some of your party are not into large thrill rides. Queue time for FuriousBaco 30mins on friday, 90mins on the tuesday.

Using the busses to get around was easy and cheap with Salou and LaPinada 5/10 mins away. On return just ask for ticket to Hotel Negressco, saves paying the extra for the centre of cap salou. In Salou the water maze is great for kids, also check out the lights and laser fountain show friday, saturday and sundays.

“quiet but nice”

first off we where misold the hotel by the travel agent to be honest as myself and my girlfriend are both in our 20s with a child under two and the hotel didnt cater really for our need and is more aimed at the older generation. the hotel itsself is lovely nice decor clean and tidy as are the staff who where tremendous in every department. the rooms where huge and we had a great view. the meals where a bit hit and miss there was a lot of fish for dinner but the breakfast where great although i didnt try the eggs!!. bad points not many really apart from the entertainment or lack of it the stuff that was on was about 40 year before our birth with a few dodgy singers singing sinatra and humperdink covers! the pool was very cold in fact it was colder than the med! and i think all the other guest thought the same as hardly anyone used it after the first time they jumped in. its not actually in salou and the walk is quite stenous into salou and the surrounding towns due to it being a very hilly area overall though great area great hotel and barcalona only and hour away. if you are taking a trip to barca id advise you to take the train as the buses which take you dont have many pickup points and dont give you any indication of where they actually are either just the name of the street

  • Liked — the rooms and some of the food
  • Disliked — the vey chilly pool
