“If getting drunk to Hi-di-hi type entertainment, eating cold food and living with flies is your thing, you'll love it.”
What a dump. The first room stank of smoke, which was no mean feat when it is a non-smoking hotel. The sink was in the same the room as the beds and the bath was the length of two pieces of hand luggage.
The second room looked out onto a rooftop, which had a broken chair on it and was littered with paper drinks cups. Some broken planters with dying plants in them formed a barrier to the end of the rooftop and the one story drop. And it is just as well as on the second night some guests got onto the rooftop, just outside our window and started urinating against our bedroom wall. They then climbed back through an unlocked window back into the corridor. It will only be a matter of time before some drunken guest, and drinking is all there is to do there, falls off the roof.
The ‘sun terrace’ was manned by a barman for 10 minutes in every 30, so either get plenty of plastic glasses worth or make it last. A line of sun cream defined the maximum fill level of the Jacuzzis. But the worst issue were the flies. I can only image what we must have looked like constantly swinging papers, books and arms at various parts of our anatomy in a vain attempt to stop the flies crawling all over us. And you are only allowed to sunbath after 9am. I’ll explain the logic behind this later.
The bar stank of stagnant water, and yes mosquitoes bit guests. In fact I think they were the only things there that ate well.
The food was at best tepid but was always cold by the time we sat down an example being that one morning the hash browns were cold in the middle at 8am and we were the first people in the restaurant. One day we had sausages as an option for every meal. They may not have been the same sausages but they were all cooked to exactly the same colour. You can make up your own mind. The only talent the cooks (the term chefs is unfair to those who do care about basic food hygiene) had was to be able to re-use last nights food on the next day’s lunch buffet by giving it another name and slapping some sauce on it. The daily entertainment in the restaurant was hide and search. It was our goal to find: a clean table, a teaspoon and a pepper pot.
The entertainment (not the same as entertaining) was so loud that we could participate in every ‘Working Man’s Club’ activity from our room, doing exceptionally well in every quiz. Definitely not designed by Mensa. The compares, as there were two, just droned on in celebration of their own voices trying in vain desperation to involve the audience in their desperately uninteresting lives and humour whilst playing on their computer randomly playing sound bites over the top of what each other were saying.
You are only allowed 2 drinks at a time from the bar where the glasses are slightly larger than test tubes. You won’t get any ice in your drinks until it has melted to size that will fit in the glass. This won’t be a problem if you didn’t have to queue in a long line, often 15 people long, to get your allotted drinks, often half full.
This hotel is designed to maximise profit by cramming as many people into the hotel as possible. The goal is to get as drunk as possible on a night, the entertainment finishing at 12.30am and the unsupervised screaming kids running up and down the corridors slamming doors finishing about 3.30am and then get up and have a full English breakfast. The hotel doesn't allow to sunbath when the sun is out because they don't believe anyone will be awake enough until 9am. The goal then is to start drinking for the night so when you do eat anything you’re never quite sure if it the alcohol or the food that is making you throw up. And because you are so drunk the waiting doesn’t seem too long at the bar and you don’t object to all clapping with your hands above your head for the ‘star attraction’ that is already 5minutes late on stage. One of the night’s entertainments was Karaoke. This isn’t the hotel providing entertainment it is the guests.
So if you want to spend your time getting drunk, leave your children to run riot and do whatever they like, run a real risk of contracting food poisoning, listen to dated, egotistical inept BTEC drama dropouts shouting into a microphone and sun bath only when the hotel allows you to. The Villa Marina Club is the place for you. Oh yeah, it’s nowhere near the marina or the beach.
A great place to film a Shameless holiday special where you won’t have to pay actors to be extras.

Thank you for taking the time to write your review and express your opinion with others.
I would like to take this opportunity in expressing our apologies that you did not enjoy your time here with us, as the majority of our guest do nut we completely understand that the Villamarina may not appeal to all and would like to answer some of the comments you have made.
The Villamarina is a 3* all inclusive family hotel offering value for money holidays, the hotel does operate a no smoking policy in all rooms, if anyone is caught to e smoking in the room, this is addressed and request that guest use their balconies or the external areas, and apologies this happened to yourselves and am happy we was able to offer you an alternative room straight away, as it is our priority to try resolve any issues straight away.
We was aware of your issue with someone climbing on to the roof, security was addressed with regards to this and the person who did this was also addressed and officially warned by hotel management , this is not something that happens daily and can only apologies that you had to witness this. The hotel has 2 security men within the hotel of an evening.
The adult only roof top was operated daily from 10.00-18.00h, the waiter was advised that if the area was quiet, to take a quick walk round the main bar to see if the waiters there required any assistance, this was also monitored by management and received no other complaint with regards to this.
As you are aware the assistant manager is constantly walking around the hotel speaking with guests and making sure everything is OK, You spoke daily with the assistant manager with regards to other issues you had within the hotel and your comment with regards to the waiter was never mentioned.
The reason for the pools and roof top terrace not opening till 9am is not for the reason you have explained this is due to the pools been manned by a lifeguard for your safety plus, to try and stop beds been reserved by towels for long periods of time.
The food in general scores very highly here in the Villamarina with one of the highest CSQ scores out of the hotels in this area with Thomas Cook, we completely understand it may not appeal to all taste and are always looking at new ideas to add to the menu. The food is buffet style and applies with all health and safety regulations with regards to temperatures with this been registered every setting, and external checks monthly. We understand that a buffet will never be as hot as food been served straight from the oven and therefore offer the facility of microwaves if anyone wished to make their food hotter. Both the manager and the assistant manager eat in the restaurant daily to monitor temperature and quality and service to ensure we are delivering what we say we will. The hotel does not reuse food from the previous night as you have stated. Of the course the restaurant can be very busy at certain peak times and you may be required to wait for a table as you would within any hotel that is busy. Apologies this caused you any inconvenience
The entertainment we offer if family orientated and the majority of guests enjoy participating in the fun and the shows which are on offering giving us positive feedback, apologies you found this to be too loud and not to your liking, and would be interested to know what kind of entertainment you would have liked to have seen on the program to try ensure we are offering something for everyone.
Like the majority of 3* all inclusive hotels we do operate a limit on the amount of drinks served to anyone person at a time this is to control, drunkenness and wastage, the bar staff work very hard and do keep queues down to a minimum and do serves quickly, 15 people in a queue as you have mentioned is very good considering the hotel has a capacity of 600 guests when full
The entertainment and bar finishes at 12.00 midnight, the hotels gives guest 30 minutes to finish of drinks etc before be asked to leave the communal areas, the security are available throughout the night patrolling corridors to ensure noise levels are kept to a minimum, if you was having a problem with noise till 03.30am, reception can be contacted and security would have been sent to your floor to resolve any problem you had, apologies if you did not feel this was necessary, The hotel has karaoke once a week with tributes, acrobats and more on the other 6 nights of the week, the hotel takes everyone’s feedback very seriously and have karaoke on the program as there is a high demand for this.
The hotel does not allow alcoholic drinks to be served till 12.00 lunch time, and we do monitor anyone who seems to be having a little too much, the hotel has refused to serve more alcohol if guests are seen to have had enough.
Once again we can only apologies that the Villamarina was not the place for you, The staff work very hard including the entertainers and do not feel it necessary to call them BTEC drop outs,
Thank you for your feedback
