“Absolutely Fabulous”

I have just returned from a 14 night stay at the Cye apartments with my husband and 3 year old son and it was fantastic!!
We were sad to leave : (
Our apartment was on the 1st floor overlooking the pool area and you were guaranteed to get the last of the afternoon sunshine beating down on you. The bedroom was spacious enough it allowed a 3rd bed to go in, lovely big bathroom with a nice deep bath and kitchen area with a couple of rings, microwave, kettle and toaster.
The apartment was spotless and on our arrival we had a pack by the sink with a nice thick cloth, scourer and small bottle of washing-up liquid enough to last 3 or 4 sink loads and a lovely make up bag in the bathroom with soap, comb, body lotion, cologne and tissues (nice touch). The reception staff were so, so friendly and helpfull. Great holiday we will be back!!!

“Very nice apartments!”

We visited these apartments in August for 11 nights (2A +1C). I have to say I really liked them. The location is excellent, less than 5 minutes walk from the main beach and promenade. The apartments themselves were a good size and very clean, with all the kitchen utensils you require. We were on the 3rd floor at the end of the corridor overlooking the pool. We had no noise in the nighttime apart from what you heard from the street, which was minimal.

Reception staff were lovely, always very accommodating.

Hotel rooms were cleaned with new towels every three days. Air con was lovely to have in the room and kicks in automatically when you close the balcony doors. We did not cook in the room so I can't rate the oven, etc.

There are 2 pool tables in a tv room with 3 computers for internet access - 1 euro for 12 minutes. Good to have so you can check your emails / bank balance if you are so inclined.

The pool area is small but adequate. We spend the first 4 days at the pool until my daughter had her fix. We literally had to tell her to get out at 9pm because it was closing. Sun loungers were not a problem during our first week but you had to be up early to get them the second week as the changeover began. There are posters around telling you not to hold a chair unless you are in the pool or at the bar but to be honest, everyone was doing it so we weren't going to be left out.

Lovely people by the pool - many Irish, English + Northern Ireland (what recession?). Met some very nice people + had good chats and craic.

There is a lifeguard at the pool most of the day but to be honest, only he was sitting under an umbrella I'd say he was sunning himself! Didn't look very interested. But at least he was there I suppose......

The Lazy Wave - the bar attached to the hotel. Really liked it - staff lovely, 2 brothers I believe who are both lovely and friendly. We had a few beers here each evening while the sun went down before our shower/change. Entertainment was good by a Scottish girl - the kids loved it anyway. Karaoke most nights and a bit of Bingo. I wouldn't go every night but it was like a time-out some nights when we didn't want to go far or wanted to come back after dinner. We only ate here on our last night and I'm sorry we didn't eat before. Lovely steak meals with wine for less than 45euro.

Cons: if you can call them that......
There was a bit of a problem with the lift getting stuck while we were there but as we were only on the 3rd floor we used the stairs all the time anyway.

Noisy buses pull up outside the apartments, beside the pool area - but really, this isn't a major problem. Just can be a pain early morning.

All in all, great apartments, great location and great price. I would definitely go back.

Area Information:
We ate in many restaurants around the resort, it was hit and miss really. Steakhouse on Front was lovely but pricey. English bars always work in that you get exactly what you are looking for - full breakfast, roast, mash, gravy, etc. Many less quality places, even though they look good from the outside - what they serve up is not always good. I'm not a fussy person but if you find somewhere good, use it a few times. Nice to know you're going to enjoy your dinner, that's one of the highlights of my day (along with a nice glass of red).

Cocktail bars on the front are worth a visit, even for the photo opportunity. My 7 year old was delighted with her NA cocktail with the sparklers. 10 euro a pop but worth it for the photo.

Market area is great for a mid afternoon wander. There were a whole variety of shops/restaurants we didnt discover (hence maybe my hit and miss comments) up to the left of the sea front on the way to Cap Salou. We only saw these on the 2nd last day when we got the bus to La Pineda for Aquapolis (good place too - worth a visit, bring sunscreen).

Beach area is lovely but can get very crowded so it's find a pew and keep it. An umbrella is advisable if you are going for the day, keeps the intense sun off for a bit. We bought our own for 11 euro and a stab-stand thing for 2.95 in a shop across the road. Sea water is bliss!

I enjoyed Salou and I would return for another 10 day holiday. Perfect way to relax. It can be as expensive or as cheap as you want it to be - 1.50 beer in one bar V 2.50 beer in the one next door, etc. Enjoy!

“Beware of the lifts”

Inside the hotel is nice and clean, and our room was spacious with nice comfortable beds. The room had 2 cooking rings and a microwave which made catering for a family a bit of a challenge. The receptionists are nice and helpful. We did get stuck in a lift for a few minutes though, they are small, hot, normally damp and one of them was unreliable. The pool area is small and people queue up to put their towels on the limited number of sun loungers even if they aren't going to use them, unfortunately you can't sunbathe on your balcony in the majority of rooms as they are in the shade. Location is good with a short walk to the beach and the bus stop outside for Portaventura.

“Fantastic apartments in an excellent location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 August 2011

We (my 14 year old son, my 15 year old nephew, my 3 year old daughter and myself) just got back from a week long trip to Salou Costa Dorada. We stayed at the Cye Salou Apartment.
Our apartment was excellent. It was spacious, clean & the decor was loverly. The staff were helpful and friendly. There is a 50 pound or 60 euro deposit to pay on check-in and it cost 32 euro (10 euro deposit) to hire the safe.
We were in room 103. Great 1st floor room, over looking the pool with a massive balcony. The pool was a good size and there was a life guard for most of the day. The downside is it closes at 9pm.
The self-catering facilities were great. It had everything you needed to cook except an oven. I've stayed in several s/c room before and can say the cye salou is by far the best.
If you don't want to cook there are several restaurants nearby and there is an independent bar/restaurant called the lazy wave attached to the hotel.
Shopping for food is easy. There are several supermarkets near by. I recommend the Micheal Angelou S/M. It's 3mins away. very cheap & sells everything but there is a shop next door. The market is 3 mins away.
The beach is less than a 10min walk away. Down the main road past lots of shops.
The amusement park (port adventura) is a 20min walk away or you can take a bus/tram at the cost of 1.45 to 3 euros pp.
We has a brilliant holiday & the two things that would make me return is The Cye Salou & DOWNHILL BIKES (check out their website)
I hope this has been helpful.
SenseiS.
Another downside, check-in can be after 3pm. We had to wait 2.30hours for our room.

Room Tip: Be aware your check-in time can be after 3pm. Can be noisy at night.

“Never Again!!”

Arrived in these apartments on August 12th and stayed for a week!! Rooms were really small and very basic! Bed are uncomfortable and there was a lack of storage space! Pool area was tiny and needed more sun beds for their guests! Many of them were broken!
The bar staff were so slow!! Took ages to order a drink!Food was okay there but again a bit slow! Reception staff were quiet rude and unhelpful, as for house keeping- rude and ignorant! Towels and bedding weren't changed! We got one set of clean towels in the week we were there and we had to ask for them! Apartments are noisey! You can here everything going on in the apartments next door and up above and below you, so dont expect to sleep much!
Salou was only okay. I may return but not to the cye apartments!
