We visited these apartments in August for 11 nights (2A +1C). I have to say I really liked them. The location is excellent, less than 5 minutes walk from the main beach and promenade. The apartments themselves were a good size and very clean, with all the kitchen utensils you require. We were on the 3rd floor at the end of the corridor overlooking the pool. We had no noise in the nighttime apart from what you heard from the street, which was minimal.
Reception staff were lovely, always very accommodating.
Hotel rooms were cleaned with new towels every three days. Air con was lovely to have in the room and kicks in automatically when you close the balcony doors. We did not cook in the room so I can't rate the oven, etc.
There are 2 pool tables in a tv room with 3 computers for internet access - 1 euro for 12 minutes. Good to have so you can check your emails / bank balance if you are so inclined.
The pool area is small but adequate. We spend the first 4 days at the pool until my daughter had her fix. We literally had to tell her to get out at 9pm because it was closing. Sun loungers were not a problem during our first week but you had to be up early to get them the second week as the changeover began. There are posters around telling you not to hold a chair unless you are in the pool or at the bar but to be honest, everyone was doing it so we weren't going to be left out.
Lovely people by the pool - many Irish, English + Northern Ireland (what recession?). Met some very nice people + had good chats and craic.
There is a lifeguard at the pool most of the day but to be honest, only he was sitting under an umbrella I'd say he was sunning himself! Didn't look very interested. But at least he was there I suppose......
The Lazy Wave - the bar attached to the hotel. Really liked it - staff lovely, 2 brothers I believe who are both lovely and friendly. We had a few beers here each evening while the sun went down before our shower/change. Entertainment was good by a Scottish girl - the kids loved it anyway. Karaoke most nights and a bit of Bingo. I wouldn't go every night but it was like a time-out some nights when we didn't want to go far or wanted to come back after dinner. We only ate here on our last night and I'm sorry we didn't eat before. Lovely steak meals with wine for less than 45euro.
Cons: if you can call them that......
There was a bit of a problem with the lift getting stuck while we were there but as we were only on the 3rd floor we used the stairs all the time anyway.
Noisy buses pull up outside the apartments, beside the pool area - but really, this isn't a major problem. Just can be a pain early morning.
All in all, great apartments, great location and great price. I would definitely go back.
Area Information:
We ate in many restaurants around the resort, it was hit and miss really. Steakhouse on Front was lovely but pricey. English bars always work in that you get exactly what you are looking for - full breakfast, roast, mash, gravy, etc. Many less quality places, even though they look good from the outside - what they serve up is not always good. I'm not a fussy person but if you find somewhere good, use it a few times. Nice to know you're going to enjoy your dinner, that's one of the highlights of my day (along with a nice glass of red).
Cocktail bars on the front are worth a visit, even for the photo opportunity. My 7 year old was delighted with her NA cocktail with the sparklers. 10 euro a pop but worth it for the photo.
Market area is great for a mid afternoon wander. There were a whole variety of shops/restaurants we didnt discover (hence maybe my hit and miss comments) up to the left of the sea front on the way to Cap Salou. We only saw these on the 2nd last day when we got the bus to La Pineda for Aquapolis (good place too - worth a visit, bring sunscreen).
Beach area is lovely but can get very crowded so it's find a pew and keep it. An umbrella is advisable if you are going for the day, keeps the intense sun off for a bit. We bought our own for 11 euro and a stab-stand thing for 2.95 in a shop across the road. Sea water is bliss!
I enjoyed Salou and I would return for another 10 day holiday. Perfect way to relax. It can be as expensive or as cheap as you want it to be - 1.50 beer in one bar V 2.50 beer in the one next door, etc. Enjoy!
