I have just come back from the Sunclub Apts (Sept 24-1 Oct) and wow what a great holiday my sister and I had! We paid for a sea view 2-bedroom apartment and requested a high floor which is exactly what we got. We were in room 521 with a double and a twin bedroom as well as the pull-out sofa bed in the livingroom.
Although basi, the apartments have a fridge, cooker (2-hobs), kettle, cutlery etc etc, and are in an ideal location. Just next to the apartments, there is a Spar shop with another 'supermarket' called Michaelangelos just up the road. There are excellent transport links outside the accommodation as well with buses that run to Salou, PortAventura, Cambrills and La Pineda every 10 mins. A good tip is to buy a bus card which is 12,95 euros and that gave you 10 trips on the buses - a single without this is 2,20 euros - so definitely worth your while if you plan on moving through resorts.
On arrival, we had to leave card details or a £60/100 euro (refundable) deposit in case of any breakages, which we hadn't expected so be careful of that. Also, if we wanted to rent a safe it would have been 5 euros per day and an electric kettle is 7 euros per week - which I thought was a rip off. There is a hob-kettle in the apartment so we just stuck to that. There is the option to upgrade to all-inclusive whilst there and that was 15 euros per person per day. We didn't bother as we had cooking facs and there was a restaurant in the complex as well.
The small cove-like beach of Cap Salou is a five minute walk downhill but it's a wee bit steep coming back up. May not be ideal for those with walking difficulties as Cap Salou is quite hilly. However, saying that, I much preferred the quiet, pretty charm of this resort compared to the hussle and bustle in the centre of (New) Salou. Had we been in Salou itself, my review would probably be a lot different as I felt it really was touristy and built up with no charisma at all. Some people may like that though - as there were restaurants aplenty; a Subway store; souvenier stores and a long beach which was packed by 10am.
We loved Spain immensely and would certainly return. One thing we would miss out though is PortAventura as we felt it was great for young families and children but seeing as we are 21 and 24, we didn't get the appeal. We were glad we went but the 44 euros pp for a day ticket is steep for the assortment of rides they had. However, if your kids love dolphins, sealions etc - try Aquapolis in La Pineda as there is the option to swim with sealions and pet/kiss the dolphins (for an additional charge).
We travelled with first choice/thomson and were extremely happy with the rep, Mel. We were also able to book tours through her and did one called the Barcelona Day and Night Tour which covered all the obvious attractions in Barcelona for 62 euros each. Completely worth doing - a great tour. You will be knackered the next day though as you are on the go for about 12 hours.
The only negative I have is the sleep quality of the hotel. The bigger and next-door complex of the H10 Med Village had karaoke going on every night from 7pm until after midnight and even with your windows shut, you could hear it loud and clear which made settling down a problem. This was only a minor problem for us but if you had children, it may cause bigger issues.
Room Tip: Sea Views well worth the extra money and the higher up you are, the better.
