“Great base hotel”

My boyfriend and I stayed here 24th to 30th of September and it was brilliant! we booked it last min off teletext and I was a little wary as there didnt seem to be a website for the hotel but we loved it. The hotel was always clean and staff were friendly and helpful. We opted for all inclusive and the food was brilliant, always a huge choice and a live grill too. loads of drinks all day which was great as it was hot! The room was quite basic but we had two double beds so loads of room! the only problem was the heat, we didnt pay for air conditioning and so it was quite stuffy but we got used to it. Every night the hotel puts on entertainment from bingo to kareoke and magic shows. this was loads of fun but we a room right near the stage so the music was quite loud!! however we were close to the restaurant/bar/pool and reception so i guess every cloud! The beach is a 2 min walk away and its beautiful, huge and really soft sand. La Pineda was nice, not much to do, just the usual shops and restaurants, however we walked to the local water park (10/15 mins away) and this was a great day out and they have a dolphin show!
The hotel was a great base for this area as we managed to get the bus to Tarragona and PortAventura for about 2euros each per way. theres also loads of coach trips to barcalona and surrounding areas
I'd really recommend this hotel as it was basic but for what you need it for it was great. We went right at the end of their season which was great as it was quiet and not many people there

Room Tip: away from pool/stage area!

“Avoid if possible :0(”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 October 2011

Travelling was me (34)' my daughter (4)And my niece (16).
We booked this hotel, even though my sister and her kids had an unfortunate experience in setember 2010. When she arrived, she was told that there had been a problem with her room and was moved to a sister hotel in Cambrills. We arrived and guess what? We must have had the same room because there was a problem with our room and we had to move to a hotel up the road! Coincidence? I think not! We were told by a member of staff that they were shutting rooms down for the season, so 9 families that day were being moved to the same hotel as us.
The apartments we were given in the other hotel were amazing! A 4* hotel and almost brand new, we were lucky, but we had booked the sol d'or to be near family in the GOLDEN DONAIRE ( fab hotel) and had to walk up + down a hill 4 times a day at least, so this took it's toll on us. Also the prices on drinks were 2 euros a drink more in the new hotel, and no evening entertainment for my 4 year old.
By day 4 we asked to be moved back to the sol d'or and wished we hadn't bothered!
The rooms were basic, but cleaned daily. The restaurant was like a cattle Market, but food was nice and hot.
The worst part was in the evening when the entertainment was on you could hear everything in the room. They started a quiz at 11 pm and they might as well have been in the room with us.
The music was ok, except for one song they liked to play, even around the pool during the day that kept repeating a four letter word begining with f and sounds like pluck. I swear, but Theresa places it's not acceptable.
If you do book this hotel, try and get a room that hasn't got a pool view, especially if you have young children and want to sleep at some point during the holiday.
I always try to see the best in every situation and hate complaining, but that's all in seemed to do on this holiday.
If given the chance to go to La Pineda again, I would avoid this hotel at all costs, the GOLDEN DONAIRE across the road is far superior and it's on the beach! The entertainment is amazing for young children and adults alike, my parents have been going there for 4 years now and never complain.

Room Tip: Avoid pool view rooms, especially if you have young children and like to sleep.

“GOOD 3* HOTEL SPOILED BY POOR DINING EXPERIENCES”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 October 2011

La Pineda:-
Just returned from a lovely week's holiday in La Pineda, which I would highly recommend as a perfect location for a quiet and relaxing week away, with good range of bars, restaurants and shops, lovely beach, warm sunshine (and only 2 hour flight from UK).

Best Sol D'or Hotel:-
Could have been a excellent 3* hotel, as the hotel and rooms (although basic) were spotlessly clean; the staff and hotel facilities were really good and it is in an excellent location.

However, we felt really disappointed with the food. We stayed on an all inclusive basis, and although we knew it is 3* accommodation and didn't have high expectations, we were very unhappy with our dining experience. My hubby and I are by no means "fussy eaters" and have stayed at several places in the past where the food is not of a restaurant standard, but is perfectly acceptable and edible, and have always managed to find something to eat each day that we enjoyed.

However, our experience in this hotel, was of very poor quality food and where the "hot" food was served cold every day. We put it down to the fact that it was the last week of their season and they were running down their food stocks, as it was evident that some food was recycled for next meals (or even next days' meals). On the plus side, However, there was an abundance of fresh fruit available at each mealtime.

We ate out one evening early in the week as it was our anniversary and we wanted to have a nice meal, but on the evening before we left, just couldn't face eating the cold and uninviting food that was available, so again ate out at a local restaurant. Therefore, overall, the all inclusive experience did not work for us as we ended up spending a further 80 euros outside the hotel on food/drinks just for 2 eves.

On the whole we really enjoyed our week's holiday at La Pineda and would go back again, but not to this hotel (purely because of our dining experience).

“perfect location”

My husband and i have just returned from a week in the sol dor, we found it to be very clean but basic (you get what you pay for) it was 2 minutes walk to the beach in pineda which was perfect for children and adults. They had entertainment on in the hotel every night, something for the children till 10pm and then from 10pm to 12 midnight for the adults which was really quiet good. The staff on reception we found to be very helpful but the biggest draw back was the restaurant, meal times was like a cattle market, it really was a free for all. One evening i put my handbag on a table with our room tkt went and got our food when we returned there was someone sitting at the table eating there dinner, when we asked them to move they completely ignored us. The food was excellent plenty of choice but im sad to say to many ignorant eastern europeans etc, but dont let this put you off just sharpen your elbows.

Room Tip: If you get a room facing the pool thats where the entertainment is and is very loud until midnight...
