“good value for money!!!”

I have stayed there for two weeks at the end of June 2011 together with my girlfriend and our 4 years old son. We were afraid of some bad reviews here but finally we really enjoyed our holiday in Cap Salou.
The room we had was on the ground floor with the small terrace, it was no balcony view at all (except big-white- wall) as there is a parking in front of that side of the hotel. The room was newly refurbished, and it was basic but quite good. Cleaning was perfect. Special thanks to our Latin lady cleaner!
The reception staff is ok, but no English speaking person you can find. I have tried for three times to call them before arrival, but every single time the call was dropped on the other side when hearing first English words ))) However later we found them speaking native russian and some spanish))))
I reckon this hotel is russian orientated now, and at least 70% of occupiers were russians,
So if you expect some multicultural experience you might need to find another hotel.
The restaurant and the food were great and plenty of choice. But it comes really busy during peak times. So try to come earlier or at the end of the serving time. Local champagne have been served every morning, and it tasted good.
The beach is just next step to the hotel. It is too small to fit the entire hotel’s people, but you can walk around and find plenty of space on the others. Cup Salou area is quiet part of the Salou, and if you need more attractions you can go to Salou by local bus service. However there are few bars serving good food and cold beer just next to the hotel!
After all, I can say it was good value for money (we paid less than 600EUR for 14 nights/halfboard) and I can’t understand people moaning here - you get what you paid for!

Room Tip: Try to get the refurbished one, as its really fits 3* standards.

“We had a great time”

Myself and my wife spent a week and both enjoyed the hotel and the resort, we found the food (breakfast & dinner) to be very good and with plenty of variety to choose from.

Rooms were a good size and the beds were fine, as a few people mentioned the aircon didn’t work when we arrived but was sorted out very quickly when we enquired at reception.

We had no problem with any of the staff and found them to be cheerful and helpful. Overall for what we paid for a week’s stay on half board we thought it was very good value and would not hesitate to stay again.

As for the Russians – Ok I have to agree with most of the other reviewers but this is a culture thing that has nothing to do with the hotel.

“Disappointing hotel”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 October 2011

Dont be fooled by the description of private beach. In fact it is a small cove which my 10 year old daughter soon tired with and i missed the views of an open beach. Apart from the occasional smile from the restaurant staff the quality of the welcome was apppalling and most to the reception staff could not or would not speak English so if it was not for the fact my elder daughter could use her school Spanish I would have been demented. Our Air Conditioning was not working but was fixed within 24 hours however our card key lock on the door was faulty so we had to get a member of staff to open our room. It took them 5 days of complaining ( and finally tears) before we were taken seriously and the lock was changed! The food was great and the choice was adequate. The room was a good size.We managed to get sunbeds around the pool which was a relief but could have done without the repetative spanish traditional music all day every day (apart from the hour of aqaurobics when we were blasted some songs we recognised) so take your own music! Not enough going on for the younger children but it is just a 5 minute bus journey to Salou where it is great for the older ones. My older daughter and her friend loved it there. We had a fab day at Puerto Aventuro. hint. Get the Express tickets from inside, They are 23 euros each more but it saves you standing in a queue for an hour or longer for the main rides. We didnt know this before we went and we are pleased we did it. Also went int Barcelona to the stadium which is well worth a visit but took the local bus trip and regretted it as they did not give us our alocated time in the city. Next time i want a good look around Barcelona as it looks lovely. I will definitely go back to Salou or la Pineda but would not recommend this hotel.

“Don't forget your hairdryer”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 October 2011

Bad points-I purposely phoned from the UK to ask if they had hairdryers and was told that not all rooms do but the lady I spoke to said she would make sure I was in a room that did have one.She didn't so I went down to request one only to be told there was nothing they could do-so no hairdryer for a week.TV remote costs 10 euros deposit-first time I've ever had that.Room was a bit 'tired'-missing tiles, tatty cutains and a ceiling that leaked in the bathroom when the people upstairs showered-no need to start our rather dilapidated shower just stand in the bath and share with upstairs-it did stop after asking staff to sort it over 2 days !We weren't russian or german or dutch so we felt rather out of place and less welcome.A lot of the hotel wasn't open-pool bar etc as we went end of season. It was very hot for the time of year but no air con so we baked at night.Staff on reception were very offish. And for some strange reason we kept finding glass on the balcony-I can only assume this was transferred on the sweeping mops they use from other areas they had cleaned previously.Hot food was cold but to be fair excellent choice and omlettes etc cooked fresh.
Good points-lovely location right on the coast with it's own small beach-nice balcony with lovely view of the beaches and sea.Nice bars etc nearby-try Route 66-lovely food and friendly staff.Bit of a steep climb to bus stops but not far at all.Cleaning staff were lovely-asked for and got extra pillows straightaway.Plenty of toletries.Clean sheets/towels every day.

Room Tip: Get one at the back for the sea view and make sure it has a hairdryer !

“unfriendly staff not made very welcome by the spainish travellers.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 September 2011

small but very clean room, the only friendly person out of the hotel staff were the cleaning staff. didnt help that the waiting staff didnt speak a word of english. going as a family of 6 struggle with sitting area as only had 4 tables of 6 and the rest of them were 4. we found that couples of 2 or 3 were taken up at these tables. we found that that the spanish visitors to this hotel were very rude would rush around and didnt care if they bumped into you. i would certainly think twice about going again as made our stay a little uncomfortable. on the positive side the surrounding restaurants and pubs were very freindly and caterered for all, with plenty of different types of food and drink on offer at good prices, would suggest going self catering and not half board.
