I have stayed there for two weeks at the end of June 2011 together with my girlfriend and our 4 years old son. We were afraid of some bad reviews here but finally we really enjoyed our holiday in Cap Salou.
The room we had was on the ground floor with the small terrace, it was no balcony view at all (except big-white- wall) as there is a parking in front of that side of the hotel. The room was newly refurbished, and it was basic but quite good. Cleaning was perfect. Special thanks to our Latin lady cleaner!
The reception staff is ok, but no English speaking person you can find. I have tried for three times to call them before arrival, but every single time the call was dropped on the other side when hearing first English words ))) However later we found them speaking native russian and some spanish))))
I reckon this hotel is russian orientated now, and at least 70% of occupiers were russians,
So if you expect some multicultural experience you might need to find another hotel.
The restaurant and the food were great and plenty of choice. But it comes really busy during peak times. So try to come earlier or at the end of the serving time. Local champagne have been served every morning, and it tasted good.
The beach is just next step to the hotel. It is too small to fit the entire hotel’s people, but you can walk around and find plenty of space on the others. Cup Salou area is quiet part of the Salou, and if you need more attractions you can go to Salou by local bus service. However there are few bars serving good food and cold beer just next to the hotel!
After all, I can say it was good value for money (we paid less than 600EUR for 14 nights/halfboard) and I can’t understand people moaning here - you get what you paid for!
