“nice ,but with a serious sting in the tail”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 August 2009

stayed in this apartment complex for 1 week in august and while the accomodation is fairly ok there are some issues which caused us some concerns. the a/c in our rooms was very noisey which meant it couldnt be left on overnight causing much discomfort. there is what is described as a reception office which has very restricted hours, and has minimal information available anyhow. there is a small swimming pool area which can fill up very quickly as the houses in the complex also seem to use the pool. i would think that this complex is mainly let to spanish families, not that there is anything wrong with this, but there is no help for non spanish speaking guests. the biggest issue we would have with these apartments is their location, at the bottom of possibly the steepest road we have ever encountered. if you dont hire a car you will be a prisioner in this place, as walking up the road [ approx 800 meters] is an impossibility and that leaves having to use taxis as your means of transport even just to go to the local shops. and the drivers are not shy about charging extortionat rates for even the shortest trip. it is a nice area and the old town is very nice ,but without a car forget about it ,and if you do hire a car good luck with local drivers!!!

“Difficult to get to - but nice enough”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 May 2009

My apartment was fine. It would have accomodated a few people quite comfortably. The kitchen seemed well equipped. The Internet connection was very flakey, and I often got disconnected.
There was a missing lightbulb in the hall, which never got replaced despite reporting it to reception, but I wasn't in the apartment much anyway.
You definitely need a car and the balls to drive it in the area, with lots of steep hills and poorly surfaced roads. The hotel was hard to find when I got there, as it was late and dark and seemingly well-hidden. The garage has small parking spaces, difficult for those with a bigger or unfamiliar car.

Reception was not manned 24-hour. The DVD player in my apartment was broken, but they replaced that when I reported it.
I sadly didn't have chance to visit the local area, as I had work to do over in Fuengirola.

“Very nice, but car required”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 September 2008

Booked this through lastminute.com about ten days before leaving. Easy to find, although it's at the bottom of a very steep lane off the main road which runs south-west out of Benalmadena resort up to the village - not convenient if you don't drive. Well-kept and very clean, pleasantly furnished, kitchen well-equipped but you'll need to bring a tea-towel or buy some kitchen roll. Good supermarket about three minutes' drive back down towards Benalmadena. We enjoyed staying at La Hacienda, with a few reservations. It was late September, so not too hot at night for most of our week, but on the first night, the flat had been closed for a week and it was very warm outside. Tried the air-con and it made little difference, so it might have been uncomfortable in hot weather without that. Service required! Also, the people who live in the adjoining houses can be noisy occasionally - one household has a dog which sometimes barks for five minutes at a time, and if you're sleeping with the window open, it's annoying. Generally, though, a high quality place in a quiet location - I'd go back.

  • Liked — Well-maintained [apart from air-con], clean, comfortable, nice bathroom.
  • Disliked — Noisy dog nearby, air-con poor

“nice place, terrible HILL”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 September 2007

The apartments were fine and good size. the place was quite and full of spanish..only down side....you 100% needed a car, otherwise you were getting taxis to top of hill, as the hill would kill you to walk.(although taxi firm was fast and not dear) and the sun loungers need to be changed as all broken...not very good for children as we went with 2 - 3yearolds and there was no child's pool and no shallow end on main pool...pool not very big but in fairness it was never busy and felt like you had it to yourself most of the time...been to both the marina and now old village and must say if like the old spanish holiday nice meals and walks then old village is nicer, not so many brits on holiday and tours like the marina...would go again if had car.....

  • Liked — the rooms were a good size
  • Disliked — the hill out of resort

“brilliant !”

we stayed at la hacienda for 4 nights in early july. got to malaga late at night and had a little trouble finding the apartment. the apartment was very spacious, with 2 decent size bedrooms, a decent kitchen, living room and fully air con in all rooms, we had a garden with ours and had a lovely view down to the sea. we have already planned our next stay here ! and the only slight thing i would moan about was the tight parking spaces in the underground car park .

  • Liked — the private garden
  • Disliked — the parking spaces
