“Don't stay in august!!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 January 2012

If you are an English or Irish family looking for a nice relaxing holiday in the month of the august I would highly recommend avoiding here. The place is crawling with Spanish who take over the pool at the day and are very loud and obnoxious. we went to the pool on the first day and avoided it for the rest of the week, the Spanish look at you as though you shouldn't be there!! Luckily we booked an apartment owned by an English lady And not benal beach itself so it was nice and modern. Air con must be kept on 24/7 unless you want to die of heat! Also smoking is permitted in throughout the whole hotel and the corridors are lines with ash trays! Shop is good value you can get fresh bageuttes daily. We stayed here years ago and there was a pub we would go to at the nite time which is closed now and all entertainment is also gone. They have also introduced a new policy where u need a swipe card just to get to the pool area and they were very strict if u forgot your card you had to treck back up to your apartment

“November break”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 December 2011

i stayed here with Diamond Resorts, the complex is too big for my liking, got lost to start with!
The outside of the building leaves a lot to be desired as do the corridors, the lifts were being refurbished when i was there, health and safety is not known to them.

I stayed in a studio apartment overlooking the sea which was to a good standard as usual, i used the aircon to heat the room as when the sun set it did cool down. i also cooked for myself without problems, the supermarket was at the top of the hill and good value.

i explored the pool, when i managed to find the door as not signposted very well. it was a shame that it was closed as there were times it would have been warm enough to sit out and maybe swim. It was very pleasant observing the cats and chickens wandering around together, though the cockerals cant tell the time.

When going here you need to do your home work ,you need to book a private apartment as 99% are private. The ones you can book with a travel agent are rubish This is a Spanish resort ,this is what I go away for ,and the great food that you can find in a Spanish restaurant not a English egg and chip one. ,great for the kids, hardly see them in 18 days ,great location ,if you like a resort that's not full of larger louts this is great ,been here 3 times and already booked for next year for three weeks

“Not up to Scratch”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 October 2011

My wife and I went with Club La Costa, and were disappointed, the hotel did nothing for the Club La Costa image, having stayed in several Club La Costa properties previously.

The hotel was tired and in need of decoration, the corridors were bare and tatty, and the accommodation although comfortable the furniture was very old and well used.

The suite had a small kitchen not big enough for a family of four, and the kitchen equipment left a lot to be desired.

Didn't use the cafeteria or the pool as it was not that inviting, good thi close to the beach and with walking distance of some great restaurants and the park.

“A week's stay Mid Sept '11”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 October 2011

First time for me in 3 years but we've owned a Royal Oasis Club time share at Benal for c20 years so it's hard for me to comment on the standard of rental/holiday company units but ROC units are to a good standard.
Not many people about so plenty of space around the pools. Sun bed/mattress is charged out at 3Euro per bed per day. Pool area closes at 1900. Food and drink available from the main bar only. Kiosk's are now closed. Paella, made to order and takes c one hour. Expensive at c10Euro p/p, but v good quality.
Couple of slides still in use, so lifeguards present.
Be prepared to have chickens around you on the beds in the gardens. The flies are a pain so take some spray.
Park opposite is good for a walk/drink but does have some fairly steep inclines. The drinks "hut" at the bottom of the park close to Benal has been replaced by a "new" facility so, should you wish you can now sit inside. If you do not like ducks/chicken and other forms of wildlife, avoid the outside. Top of the park has ano bar which serves good Tapas.
Large supermarket, Mercadona, just at the top of the hill. Lack of taxi's outside to take you back down though at this time of year. Marina within 20-30 mins walk, straight along the promenade.
It appears that a "standard" short taxi trip is somewhere between 5 and 7 Euro.
Great weather. We'll be going back around the same time in '12.

Room Tip: Block one is good. It looks over the sea and down towards the marina.
