“Brilliant holiday at Jardines des Gamonel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 November 2010

We have just arrived back from a fantastic holiday in Benalmedena staying at the jardines des Gamonal. The apartments were a very good size, very clean and when we arrived the man on reception was very welcoming. We had a two bedroom apartment with twin beds in both rooms and we were on the first floor and had a great view from the balcony. Whenever we needed help of where to find places the man on reception was really helpful and marked them out on a map of the town for us.
The pool area (although the facilities were closed due to the time of year) was a little oasis away from everything and was very well maintained (it was just across the road from the apartment). the only thing it was very cold!
The two attractions of Selwo Marina and Tivoli World were both within walking distance of about 10 minutes each and the beach about the same distance.
On the day before leaving we needed to confirm our taxi reservation and the receptionist again very helpful rang the company up for us himself.
All in all the apartments were great in a nice residential area of Benalmedena, there was a play park nearby which our children really enjoyed.
I would recommend these apartments to anyone wanting a place to stay in Benalmedena.

“The basics at a decent price.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 January 2010

We stopped here a week before half term so it was quiet. The apartments are largely residential which we found great as it meant no rowdy drunks stumbling in during the early hours. The location of the hotel itself was fantastic. We were within a good distance of the train station (we visited malaga one day), the town centre and shops and the beach and bars. The staff were also helpful, especially on our last day when they let us remain in the apartment past check out time as our flight was late. We chose to largely eat out but it does have to be noted that the kitchen was poorly equipped and the bathroom had a nasty smell. While the apartment was spacious, tidy and clean the towels were only changed once in a week and one of the beds left myself with a sore back as the matress at about a foot lower than on the other.
Overall a cheap and basic apartment but good for people on a budget who just want somewhere to sleep and change.

“Good location, value for money and spacious!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 September 2009

The apartments are in a good location, very good value for money and very spacious. They are located near a very large supermarket (5 minute walk) and a great patisserie as well as many cafes and restaurants. It only takes 10-15 minutes to get to the beach (a bit longer on the way back as the walk is uphill) and if you don’t want to go to the beach the pool facilities are very good. The pool is large and there is also a smaller pool for children.

Although the apartment was hot (we were there in August), there is the option to hire a fan on a daily or weekly basis. There is also the option to hire a safe.

We hired an apartment for 2-4 people. There were 2 twin beds and then a sofa bed. The sofa bed was in fact a mattress under a single sofa and the narrow sofa was the 4th bed. Therefore I think realistically only 3 people would be comfortable in the apartment as the sofa is very narrow and only a child or someone small would be comfortable on it.

Overall the service was great and we were even allowed to extend our check out time by 2 hours. I would definitely come back to these apartments.

“Decent location - terrible accommodation”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 August 2009

The aparment complex is fairly well situated for local amenities, which is a real bonus. There are plenty of shops, the beach, Municipal Park, Selwo Marina and Tivoli World all within a 20 minute walk. The pool was very good and also very tidy. That's as good as it got.

We arrived late at night and called out reception to get keys. When they arrived we were handed keys and pointed to the building. It was handy to have an elevator in the building. Inside, the first thing that hit us was the complete absence of fans or air conditioning. All windows and the balcony door were opened to let some air into the place. That then let in all the local noise from the multitude of bars around the complex and the traffic on the roads - and it was very noisy!

The following day we went to reception and were given our pool passes and a little map of the area and had some local attractions and supermarkets pointed out. Eventually we found the "welcome pack" which was half a sheet of A4 containing very little information. It did say which one day of the week you'd get your towels replaced. It also recommended to use the safe deposit box (at an extra charge) and mentioned that we could hire a fan for 4 Euro per day. We'd already bought one from a local shop and it worked out cheaper anyway.

The apartment itself was tidy - not actually all that clean though. We cleaned the bathroom before using it! The beds were like metal camp beds and rather small. At 5'9" it was surprising that my feet hung off the edge of the bed! Most of us ended up sleeping in the living room after bringing the mattresses onto the floor as it was cooler. The shower was actually pretty good but the towels somehow failed to dry you very well, maybe they'd been waterproofed to prolong life. Kitchen facilities were sparse; just a cooker, a small travel kettle and a few utensils. Plenty of plates and little cups though. The TV had one English Language channel, CNN. The living room sofa had two badly fitted slats which fell out if you sat directly in the middle. There was no Wi-Fi connection but there was a cheap internet cafe downstairs. The balcony door and window didn't lock. At risk of sounding too critical, even the double ceiling lights in the living room and bedrooms had only one bulb as another corner cut!

Benalmadena is a lovely place with plenty to do however, this was not, at all, a family friendly apartment.

“never again”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 August 2009

like i said "never again" was suppose to be a family holiday not a holiday from HELL!!! the only good thing was the choice of two pools which were lovely and clean and always well maintained. the apartment was scarce in the kitchen was a cooker but nothing to cook with the cups wouldn`t even fit a tea bag in. it was minimal if thats the word. I AM SURE THE HOTEL AS A FRANCHISE WITH THE LOCAL CAFES AND BARS!!! this would suit someone that does not use a microwave, washing machine, kettle, pans, toaster [which we did have sort of one that looked like a heater but it fused all the electric when we turned it ],cups, iron. to me these are essentials in a self catering holiday {ok maybe not the microwave} and none of the previous was available. I have stopped in other self catering apartments in the local area but this one i would not reccommend to anyone.
