“Stayed in 2009 when it opened”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 January 2012

Stayed at the Polynesia the year it opened.
Hotel was immaculately clean obviously as it was new.
Main restaurant buffet style was very average for breakfast and dinner, typical version of an english breakfast with streaky greasy bacon and hot dog sausages but it was just ok and could be greatly improved.
There was always a queue for entry to main restaurant at breakfast and dinner so this was probably worse in high season (we went june).
Lunch only available from pool bar which are snacks like toasties, burgers etc served in small portions but adequate for lunch.
Water attractions are at holiday village beach club a ten min down hill walk, shuttle bus runs every ten mins from hotel which is much more ideals for returning as that is one steep hill. You can hav e a buffet lunch at the beach club as well where there is a good selection.
The pools.. all of them were absoulutely freezing which was such a shame when there weer so many and so many slides.
Staff dont speak the best english but are efficient but not friendly- again could be due to hotel just opening.
Drinks at Polynesia were great, poolside bar was great at night for drinks and a good variety of branded drinks.
Kids mini disco every night goes down well, childrens club looked ok but son was four and they didnt speak good english so was wary of leaving him and he of us, understandable due to language barrier, perhaps this will have improved over time.
A La Carte Oriental was quite good, you choose what meat and veg and sauce to have and they stir fry it for you but the raw meat you helop yourself to to take it to the chef to wok fry is a bit off putting it being left out, tasted good though.
Overall a decent place for a family holiday

“New Year hotel - self catering”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 January 2012

We stayed here for a week during the New Year break and found it to be exactly as we'd hoped....
we had hired a car and had planned on travelling the Costa Del Sol, which we did very easily from where we were.
When we were in the hotel, we played in the arcade and generally had a relaxing lovely holiday.

New Years eve itself we didn't spend in the hotel, but when we arrived back at 1.30am there were 2 parties that were still in full swing and we were welcomed into both.

The rooms were clean and fully equipped (although only 2 of each item i.e. cups/saucers etc)
I am sure, if we would have called reception, they would have supplied more crockery.

The hotel definately has a wow factor, although quiet (out of season) and very big, I am sure during the summer it is a great hotel to come to if you do not want to go out too often, as it is in the middle of no-where.

2 of our friends who live in the area visited us, but were only allowed in to the complex after it had been confirmed between security and reception that we were not all inclusive.

All in all, a lovely hotel.

“Christmas and New Year Break”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 January 2012

Went to this hotel on the 23rd of December 2011 for 11 nights. Was told there was 3 restaurants and plenty to do. Arrived and must say the hotel is beautiful and rooms are excellent, with piped music in all rooms if you want this, just turn it on. Also heating or air conditioning if you want this too, just need to put it on. The balcony was very large but unfortunately we didn't get the afternoon sun, if you want this then you need to have rooms looking towards Marbella . The hotel is situated on the top of a hill in the middle of no where. The beach if you want to go is in Bendalamena, which is a bus ride away, but only 1.30 euro's. A courtesy bus will take you to the bottom of the place, this runs every half hour. We were told on our arrival all we needed to do was ask for this and it would come for us, this soon changed 3 days into our stay. The food is not hot at all and sometimes cold. There was a microwave to warm your meals up with, which says it all. The food wasn't good very repetitive with chips, pizza, hamburgers and fish and more fish. There was meat but some was under cooked and cold. The breakfast was not much better if not worse, couldn't cut my sausage as it was too hard, and saw green on the scrambled eggs!! I did not eat that. You are shown to your tables and the waiters/waitresses will fetch your drinks, if you want another drink then you have to get the eye of one. The entertainment for Christmas was practically none, spanish singers, no other entertainment was laid on at all. The bar closed at 11pm where the lights were switched off and you were told to leave, if you wanted to continue your night then you went to the disco bar, here you had to pay for drinks. Didn't see any food available outside the restaurant except for twice when it was stale bread and some ham. The pool is freezing and there is only 1 pool, and not very big. None of the other restaurants were open, so it was a buffet style meal every night. New Years Eve we were told to arrive for cocktails which was beer or wine. The meal wasn't served till 10.30pm, there were no menus, so if you didn't like the food it was tough. This went on till 12.30am then if you wanted to go to the disco bar this stayed open till 5am with an open bar. For this you had to buy a ticket for 30 euros per adult and 15 euros per child! I didn't go to this as I had paid my money and wasn't paying more. The spa looked lovely, only problem everyone walking by could stand and watch you and the same was if you used the gym. If this doesn't bother you then that's fine. A massage will set you back 50 euros for half and hour. Maids came in every day to make bed and empty bins that's all, they didn't sweep floor or wash it or wipe surfaces at all so by the time the 11 days were up the floor was quite dusty. Also please be aware of pickpockets as we were targeted they are very very good. Be aware of anyone falling down, this is a ploy and they will rob you, several people were robbed and even the rep!! As for reps saw them twice. Explained we had been robbed and they didn't even come to see us. Will not go back, it maybe very different in high season but for Christmas it's terrible. All the children were bored and just kept riding up and down in the lifts for something to do!! Ps shop is very very expensive and only open till 8pm Friday to Sunday it shuts at 1am every other day

Room Tip: Rooms facing Marbella are sunniest in afternoon

“very poor xmas hotel”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 January 2012

3 couples from one family booked this hotel for a xmas break and to celebrate my sisters 70th birthday on arrival there was one person on the desk to book a whole bus load into the hotel we had to queue for ages first impression of the hotel was wow what a lovely hotel rooms were lovely but that was it it went downhill from then on there was nothing christmasy about this hotel and the food was very poor and it was freezing cold and well the new years eve gala dinner well i dont know what to say it was terrible it was 10 oclock at night before we got the first course and if you did not like what they served there was no alternative all the english walked out they just catered for the spanish the staff were not very helpful i waited 3 days for a kettle the thompson reps were hardly ever there and the entertainment was very poor and the bar shut at 11 oclock the morning we were coming home we had to make toast in our room as the resteraunt was not opening untill 9 oclock this was terrible considering we were all inclusive the spirits were like fire water and if you wanted to upgrade you had to pay 7.50 a day to upgrade there was a new years party after the gala dinner you had to pay 30 euros if you wanted to go why should we when we were all inclusive so if anybody is thinking of booking this hotel for xmas this year i would advise them to think twice it was the worst hotel i have been to for a xmas holiday
