I had business in La Maddelena and this hotel was recommended by a friend, what a wonderful place. If you haven't been, Sardinia and the Costa Smeralda (Emerald Cost) is very picturesque, everything you would expect the italian country side to be. In the spring the country side is in bloom and there is plenty to explore as you drive along the twisty roads that follow the coastline. The hotel is situated in Palua, a gateway to the La Maddelina Archipelego, where a ferry leaves for this destination every 15 minutes or so. It is a small hotel (30 rooms?) with a very friendly staff that speaks fluent english and french (due to proximity with Corsica). My wife travelled with me and we stayed in the "Classic Plus" room. It was a large room with a king size bed, and nice sized tiled bathroom with a shower. The room had a balcony that overlooked the marina with sound proof double paned french doors. They have a continental breakfast in the morning with fruit, yogurt, italian pastry's and bread and yes plenty of brewed to order cappicino and expresso. In the evening it's nice to sit out on the porch near the parlor and have a drink before dinner. There are several eateries within walking distance that I would recommend, with Cafe Du Porte being at the top of the list (don't go to Robertino's!). For Sardinia Delicacies, like roast suckling pig, you'll have to venture a bit farther. If you are looking for a spa there is one within a short drive at Porto Manno, near the famous Capo D'Orso rock. Give it a try, reasonable accomodations with a 4 - 5 star staff and stay.
