“Perfect central location, excellent staff”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 June 2010

Central location, only yards from Palau's shops & restaurants, overlooking the marina, and just a short walk to the port for frequent ferry crossings to La Maddalena. Front desk staff extremely friendly and helpful, both in person during our stay and via efficient response to email queries prior to arrival. Continental buffet breakfast offers good choice & is constantly re-stocked by attentive staff. The hotel will arrange taxi transfers to and from Olbia airport on request - cost is added to hotel bill and paid at check out. Palau is relatively quiet in early June - a wonderful time to enjoy La Vecchia Fonte's warm welcome and explore this lovely area.

“If you want to sleep in a Disco, go ahead!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 May 2009

The hotel, the room and breakfast is very nice.

We went there to relax two days after a Business conference... (in April, out of the high season)

The only problem, which is major in my opinion is the Disco just the building next the hotel.

We stayed for two nights. The first was a small nightmare as the noise stopped at 2am. The next was worst! We had the feeling to be in the disco itself. When the disco closed, the people continued on the place just in front of the hotel until 6am. We called the reception at 4 am that told us that they are aware of the problem and that nothing can be done and they didn't want to call the police or something.

We had no choice to change of hotel as they asked for a pre-paiement and that we *have* to sign the credit card ticked upon arrival.

“Great Service at Hotel La Vecchia Fonte”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 September 2007

Great service at this hotel. After our rental car agreement made on Orbitz failed to get us a car from Thrifty/Dollar at the Olbia airport (the woman behind the desk at Thrifty didn't even care or try to help us) we called the hotel and they arranged a taxi for us for 50 Euros which was a deal considering the taxi waiting on the street wanted to charge us 75.

When we got to the hotel we were greeted by name and received a room on the top floor as requested, very nice and very clean. Even a small balcony.

English not a problem at this hotel. The hotel was quiet, the rooms very dark for sleeping, I honestly have not slept better at any hotel.

When I was sick one morning, the breakfast girl, even though she didn't speak English, gave me extra teas to take with me. I didn't even ask. It was a true gesture of kindness.

We booked on venere.com which got us a good deal at 109 Euro a night.

The only thing I didn't like about the hotel was that they had hidden extra costs...12 Euro a night to park your car, 7 Euro per person for breakfast, etc. These extras do add up. Especially for those of us unlucky with the bad exchange rates right now.

So the hotel ended up being more expensive than we thought, but they were great, so it's hard to complain.

Location of the hotel is ok. It's not seaside, but it's right near the harbor, unfortunately looks over a parking lot. But it's within walking distance of a beach or you can catch a boat to go to the islands.

Takes about 45 minutes to get there from the Olbia airport.

Try to avoid the Pizzeria near the hotel. I got very sick from eating there.

And fyi...renting a car is very expensive in Sardinia. Do it ahead of time (like we tried to do...).

“Great Hotel!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 May 2007

I had business in La Maddelena and this hotel was recommended by a friend, what a wonderful place. If you haven't been, Sardinia and the Costa Smeralda (Emerald Cost) is very picturesque, everything you would expect the italian country side to be. In the spring the country side is in bloom and there is plenty to explore as you drive along the twisty roads that follow the coastline. The hotel is situated in Palua, a gateway to the La Maddelina Archipelego, where a ferry leaves for this destination every 15 minutes or so. It is a small hotel (30 rooms?) with a very friendly staff that speaks fluent english and french (due to proximity with Corsica). My wife travelled with me and we stayed in the "Classic Plus" room. It was a large room with a king size bed, and nice sized tiled bathroom with a shower. The room had a balcony that overlooked the marina with sound proof double paned french doors. They have a continental breakfast in the morning with fruit, yogurt, italian pastry's and bread and yes plenty of brewed to order cappicino and expresso. In the evening it's nice to sit out on the porch near the parlor and have a drink before dinner. There are several eateries within walking distance that I would recommend, with Cafe Du Porte being at the top of the list (don't go to Robertino's!). For Sardinia Delicacies, like roast suckling pig, you'll have to venture a bit farther. If you are looking for a spa there is one within a short drive at Porto Manno, near the famous Capo D'Orso rock. Give it a try, reasonable accomodations with a 4 - 5 star staff and stay.
