This is a very good, professionally run hotel in the center of Palau.
The location is quite nice but the hotel doesn't have its own beach.
Our room was spacious, beautifully designed and very comfortable. We slept very well.
The hotel must have been recently refurbished, since everything is in excellent condition.
The rooms and the rest of the hotel are absolutely spotless.
Breakfast is lovely, except for the breads. But that seemed to be an issue everywhere we went on Sardinia.

Service is very friendly but unfortunately a little hit and miss.

+ The late night transfer from the airport to the hotel went very smoothly. Great driver and new spacious car were greatly appreciated.
+ Palau is nice enough but it’s really all about the Maddalena archipelago. And the hotel did book us a fantastic day cruise on the Città di Chiavari. Spargi’s Cala Corsara is eye-candy at its finest and mustn’t be missed.

- Unfortunately, we did encounter some issues with travel arrangements and the front desk didn’t help much in sorting this out, even though I addressed the issue prior to our arrival.
- Restaurant reservations should really be addressed by management. Front desk couldn’t give any real recommendations, didn’t have all phone numbers, and did not succeed at securing last minute dinner reservations at our first choice restaurant. This is a real shame since we ended up having an overpriced and unauthentic dinner at a pretentious restaurant around the corner instead.

For me the main reason for staying at a nice hotel has to do with service and not having to stress over travel arrangements and dinner reservations myself while on holidays. More detailed knowledge of the restaurant scene and a little schmoozing with restaurant owners hardly costs anything and goes a long way in making the guest experience that much better.

I would happily return to La Vecchia Fonte but I am tempted to try out La Maddalena as a base for the archipelago instead next time.

We stayed in La Vecchia Fonte for two nights and would have been happy to stay longer. The room was great, good size, clean and with all the facilites we'd need. The balcony was an added bonus and a great place to relax and watch the world go by after a busy day sight seeing. The staff were friendly and helpful and the breakfast was excellelent -everything you need to start the day. We parked for free in the car park opposite the hotel which was fine at the start of the holiday season but may be busy (and paid for) during the busier holiday season. Palau was a lovely town with a selection of bars and restaurants to choose from. The relaxed vibe of the hotel and town provided the perfect start to our honeymoon.

We stayed in Palau 2 nights, nice place very chilled out and good atmosphere. The Hotel was just ok for what you pay, specially if you travel with young children. There are NO WIFI signal in the rooms, NO KETTLE or coffee in the room. VERY POOR BREAKFAST.

This is a lovely hotel in all respects - beautiful clean rooms (and big in our case, we had a superior double), good breakfast, welcoming staff. Our only hesitation in recommending the hotel is the location. We chose to stay in Palau close by the ferry port as we were in transit for one night but if we were staying any longer, we would have preferred a hotel on La Maddalena which seemed to us to have a livelier atmosphere and cute town besides being gateway to the stunning archipelago.
