“Great location and high quality accommodation”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 January 2010

The Gasthof Adler was an absolute delight. The rooms were wonderful (we had the suite which was lovely as we were with friends so had little parties every day). The accommodation was spotlessly clean and incredibly comfortable. The food (as others have stated) was incredibly high quality, but a little pricey so we only had dinner there twice during a 5 night stay. Tennenbronn is a great location for lots of walking, and away from the comparative bustle of the southern black forest. The only reason I haven't given this an excellent is because it seemed to miss something on the atmosphere front. I would suggest this hotel would be ideal for a couple on a very quiet romantic break, but if you want a bit of a party - then perhaps go somewhere else. Hope this helps.

“Very friendly staff and very good, local food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 September 2009

The staff were particularly charming at this family run hotel (now in the sixth generation) and the daughter and her husband (who is the chef) speak excellent English (and met one another in England on his last day there!). The food is very good and local organic produce is a speciality, especially the venison. I had the tenderest 'medaillons' of venison you could imagine and it was easy to cut the meat with a spoon! There is a good upright piano for those who want to keep their fingers in trim. Although on a main road (not much traffic at night), double glazing keeps out the noise and we were not disturbed. There is an extraordinary modern church in the village which like Dr Who's 'tardis' is much bigger inside than it looks from outside, but what an eyesore the modern bell tower is! The location of the hotel is within easy reach of pretty towns such as Haslach and Schiltach. Don't miss the Duravit bathroom design museum in Hornberg with the world's largest lavatory pan as a viewing platform! Gutach has a 'bobsleigh' run which is OK for young and old and also an open air museum (a bit disappointing compared with those in Scandinavia) of old wooden houses and traditional rural crafts.

“Friendly staff and good location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 June 2009

What a great little place this is. We chose to be outside of Triberg, fearing crowds during a holiday weekend. This is a great place to go after long drives and walks in the Black Forest. Clean rooms, basically appointed, ensuite bathroom, tv (no English) and typical German breakfast included (breads, meats, cheeses, yogurt, coffee, juices, eggs) The family management is friendly and helpful (They speak English) and want you to enjoy your stay. Parking available adjacent to pension.

“Good hotel and restaurant”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 December 2008

Good hotel, nice, clean and quite.
Restaurant is good and is into organic products and most of the menu items are made from them, because of that the menu on their web is not completely available. The restaurant is also very popular with the locals and coming in on a Friday night I was warned to come early or later to have a chance of a table.

Standard German breakfast with a few roll types I had not seen before.

While the location is not the best, plan to drive to get to most tourist sites they are not that far in distance but the back roads do make it a little longer to drive.

Overall I plan to stay here the next trip I make to this area.

“Beautiful location in the Black Forest - Highly Recommend”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 October 2008

My fiancee and I stayed for 3 nights and were very happy with the hotel and location. The hotel is run by a lovely family, Thomas and his wife were very accommodating and helpful in getting us acquainted to the area. They also speak very good English, which helped us and our very limited German vocabulary! :)

The hotel is simple, but very traditional and very clean. The linens were nice and the bed was in good condition. Our double room had a balcony and the mountain view was beautiful with the brightly colored fall leaves mixed with the evergreens. Breakfast was included and they had a very nice spread. We also ate dinner at the restaurant twice and Thomas is quite the chef! Very good traditional German cuisine! We also found that St. Georgen, which is a short drive down the road, had a few more restaurant options than Tennenbronn.

We were interested in some short hikes and your options are endless right from the hotel. Thomas offered us a map of the hiking routes around the town and you can find routes as long or short as you like. There is also a nice tourist information office a block away with many other tourist activity ideas. We had a car and drove all over the southern region of the black forest. We were on some beautiful and VERY windy roads. One day we went to Munstertal and found even better hiking there! Their trail systems are awesome and endless. There is a spa/bath house just 12 km from Munstertal in Bad Krozigen and very much enjoyed the saunas after a long day of hiking! Tennenbronn gives you many day trip options. We wish we had more time to explore other areas. We would definitely stay at Gasthaus Alder again in the future.
