“Simple, no frills accommodation. Great location. So glad we went - loved Valmeinier!!”
Booked a late deal with Crystal, and have very few complains given that we only paid £147 each.
Room for 6 people - room 1 had bunk beds and wardrobe, room two had two single beds and wardrobe, living room had single sofa bed / pull out bed. Seperate WC and bathroom. All rooms seemed to have a balcony or patio area, and there was a secure ski locker area with no extra charge / deposit for padlocks or keys etc.
Basic but functional kitchen. Equipment included coffee perculator, loads of cutlery, pots and pans and a dish washer. Could have done with a microwave, but electric hob and mini oven were sufficient for a week's self catering. No room service.
Great base for exploring the area, only about 50m stroll from lift. I booked ski hire on-line with Snow Brainer before travelling (buy 6 days and get 7th free) and got a good discount with Ski Set VI which is literally next door - very handy!!
Not many english, but French were very friendly. Lovely bakery, small supermarkets, gift shops and a few resteraunts at Valmeinier 1800 - everything you need.
So glad that we went ski guiding with Crystal because we got some great skiing in and managed to cover the whole area. The lift pass was pretty good value at $143 euros because there was plenty of groomed piste to explore, loads of off piste opportunities, speed check run and a couple of snow parks.
We went to the Crystal organised fondue evening which was $20 each, at first we though it was a bit expensive, but turned out to be really good value. We had a gorgeous salad starter, cheese fondue with loads of bread and cooked meat selection, and the most tasty blueberry tart I have every tasted (and I am not a blueberry fan!!). The local wine is to die for and you really don't need to splash out because the house wines are scrummy.
This resort isn't that well known and is a real gem, lets hope it stay that way!!
Wouldn't hesitate to go back.
TOP TIP - Try the local produce that the Savoir region has to offer - you will not be disappointed and the fondue is a must try. Take a laptop and some DVD's for cheap entertainment as the TV didn't work and expect it would only be local chanels.
If I was being picky the only thing's I would complain about are that the bed wasn't at all comfortable and the transfer was a bit of a pain. We had to go to a coach station and change both ways. Neither of these issues were bad enough to ruin a great weeks skiing!!
