“Chalet Roche - heart & soul”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 February 2011

It’s very clear that Rebecca and Andrew who own and run the catered Chalet Roche have put their heart and soul into it. They are incredibly informative about the area and their knowledge of the pistes was invaluable to us. As well as St Gervais, we explored Les Contamines and Combloux during our stay, based purely on their advice and it was some of the best snowboarding we’d ever had. We would highly recommend you get a car to make the most out of these terrific resorts.

The chalet itself is very stylish yet homely and relaxed. The food is very tasty and it was refreshing to see such a varied menu. Perhaps one of the loveliest touches is that Rebecca and Andrew carefully select good quality wines to accompany the evening meal. Definitely no cheap French Vin Du Table in sight. Both the sauna and hot tub were built by Andrew himself and are fantastic after a hard day on the slopes.

St. Gervais itself is very pretty with some excellent restaurants and typical French bars. All just a short walk from Chalet Roche which is slightly out of town in a peaceful location.

Yes there are a few rules to abide by (so what, respect them and then get on with your holiday) and Andrew is a very enthusiastic guy who talks a lot. He likes to get involved in your stay, offer advice and share anecdotes so if you prefer to keep yourself to yourself then perhaps this is not the chalet for you. However, what it really boils down to is that nothing is too much trouble for these hosts, you will get a very warm and personalised service.

We’ve even been in touch with Rebecca & Andrew about helping us to find accommodation & book restaurants for a subsequent trip to St Gervais. Even thought Chalet Roche was fully booked they’ve been incredibly helpful. That’s aftercare for you!

“Beautiful chalet, excellent owners!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 January 2011

We stayed in Chalet Roches last week, having booked last spring - we are a group of extended family and like to have a chalet to ourselves, so always book early to get the best choice. Chalet Roches WAS an excellent choice - beautifully appointed and equipped, very clean and comfortable, with lovely bathrooms and spacious bedrooms.

The food was excellent, with even our fussy teenager able to declare "hmm, delicious!", on several occasions throughout the week. The wine too, was very good, well-chosen and Andrew (the owner) suggested which wine would be a good option with the particular dishes on offer - we could ignore his suggestions of course, but as they were always correct, why bother? Andrew had obviously done his research! So good and plentiful was dinner, that only 2 of our group of 8, ever made it to the cheese course, and even then, only on two occasions.

The location of the chalet is very good too - we could walk into St Gervais centre, in around 6 minutes (we know the town well and it's lovely - a 'real' town with year-round residents, proper shops and businesses etc). Whilst Andrew is available to drive guests to the telecabine, about 3 or 4 minutes away, the free ski bus stops just around the corner, is clean and comfortable and never packed, so is really no hassle to use (and we say that as people who usually HATE ski buses - too many Austrian experiences.......)

The skiing in St Gervais is fantastic with stunning views and huge variety. The weather last week was very cold, but sunny with blue skies, and that made up for the lack of fresh snow. The piste grooming is great, so there were very few bare patches, and we never struggled to find plenty of skiing for our variously-experienced group.

One last word on the chalet (well, two words, actually.....) HOT TUB! Chalet Roches' hot tub is as no other. Not the usual moulded plastic affair, but wooden and wood-fired. The views from the tub are stunning, even by usual Alpine standards, and the muscle-relaxing effects are fantastic. My husband, who had sworn never to go in one of these contraptions, is now a convert. There is also a lovely sauna, in it's own little wooden cabin alongside the hot tub, but we didn't use it - there's always next time.

We love St Gervais (it's our 3rd trip, summer and winter, in 4 years) and we will be back. Chalet Roches is the best accommodation we've found here, and wouldn't hesitate to return. Andrew and his wife, Becks, are genuinely nice people, who really care about their guests' holiday. Their chalet is beautiful and the conversion was all their own work. They should be proud of it, and we can highly recommend a holiday there.

“Wonderful Accomodation & Hosts”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 November 2010

We stayed at Chalet Roches during the summer just gone as a self-catering appartment that we had planned to stay in fell through - and thank goodenss we did, what an absolute gem. The chalet is lovely, charming and in an excellent location having a lovely garden in a quiet section of the town but just a few minutes walk from the centre.

We had a smashing large comfortable room with a balcony and great views as did our friends. The dining area and lounge were both very comfortable and beautifully furnished and the whole place was certainly one of the nicest chalets we've ever stayed in over the past 25 years of both winter & summer holidays. In fact we had such a good time that we have booked to return in the winter with a different set of friends for this seasons skiing holiday.

One thing I wanted to mention is that having read several other reviews before writing mine, I need to say that the group a while ago who chose to make negative comments are in my opinion talking absolute tosh! The bathrooms do have towel rails, the service is impeccable and all the facilities on offer including such things as tea & coffee making etc are readily available 24hrs a day and I can't fathom why anyone would say differently. All I can say is we couldn't have been looked after better and I'm just glad we didn't have to share the chalet with people who would write such misleading and unkind comments.

Anyway, can't wait to stay there again in March - I can almost smell the snow :-)

“EXCELLENT HOSTS BEAUTIFUL SURROUNDINGS BRILLIANT”

This review is very late being posted on her but better late then never slight mix up with who was going to write review.
There were 8 adults who had a week here in jan 2010, we found chalet on internet and thought looked lovely and would give a go non of us had been to catered accomodation before, during all the time leading up to the holiday if i had any questions or needed help andrew and bex were always on hand to help as much as they could which gave a great impression before even going on holiday, day of holiday we were delayed by 6 hours which andrew was a star about as we had to kept changing time we would arrice in geneva eventually we arrived at about 8pm very tired and fed up andrew met us with a smile and upbeat attitude just what we all needed as all bit fed up what a great service they offer to collect you think if i had to wait for a coach or taxi after the ordeal i would of gone crazy. We arrived in st gervais to a light dusting of snow on the ground, shown into a lovely warm inviting and gorgeous chalet all picked our rooms went downstairs to be presented with that dinner would be served in 20 mins WOW what service we really didnt expect at that time to be fed and the food was fab some of the best meal i have ever had anywhere. One of our party was pregnant so no skiing for her she was mad to feel at home and realxed in the chalet all week.Andrew drove us into town to collect ski and take us gondola not expected but what a friendly guy this was the first day and the heavens had opened with snow overnight was amazing.I could go on and on how good this holiday was and how welcome we were made to feel but think shorter review is better. To sum up chalet is very very nice very homely friendly and relaxed the meals are amazing so nice to come in from cold and smell amazing food being cooked, they are both so accomodating and we are all very very grateful for the help that they gave us during our holiday.it was without doubt one of the best holidays we could of asked for so much so we have booked the full chalet again in march 2011 and should be going again 2012 think that speaks for itself.as for st gervais its amazing so quiet compared to other resorts and huge more runs than you can make the most of in a week views are amazing, town is quiet and pretty few resturants and bars nothing to wild recommend pur bar for a drink and la geletta for meal.GREAT HOLIDAY GREAT LOCATION

Our trip to Chalet Roche was great. It lived up to our every expectation. Andrew and Bex were the perfect hosts and spoilt us with great cooking and wonderful wines. We are hoping to stay again for longer this time - they made our holiday that extra bit special which is what we needed. I can definitely recommend to anyone who wants to relax and enjoy their evening but live it up on the slopes during the day.
