My husband, our two-year old twins and I just came back from P&V Moliets et Maa Resort. We had a fantastic 2-weeks stay there.
The resort is very much catered for families or golfers which was perfect for us.
Description of the Resort
The resort is on a Golf course and the houses are in middle of trees (foret landaise) which is great for peace and quiet (but not so good for phone reception! you'll get a genuine holidays!).
There are three parts to the resort (I have taken a photo of the map enclosed):
- le Hameau where the main reception, the main pool (including a 'heated' one), all the clubs, the little farm, restaurant etc are - the hameau seems to be mainly made up of apt accommodation (i.e. smaller accommodation);
- les maisons du Golf (where we were) which is made up of small houses (5/6 people and 7/8 people), a reception (not often opened), a nice but quite cold pool and baby pool and a laverie;
- la bastide (again apts, pools and playground) – seems to be mainly accessed by people on Golfing holidays when we were there.
We had a 5/6 people house and I would recommend it for a family of four. The house was just the perfect size for us but would probably be too small for 5/6 people. It was simply furnished but it had everything you needed (exept an oven or a grill!) and was clean and very quiet i.e. good noise insulation and the shutters blocked the morning sun so we were able to have a few lie-ins even with a couple of two year old! The house fits in very well in the resort and the splendid nature all around!
We were in house 64 and I think all the houses are about the same in terms of lay-out. I will describe it further below if somebody finds it helpful.
Each house has access to a small garden. Part of the garden is tiled and has table and chairs for outdoor dining. The other part is a untiled area– Ours (and the ones of all the other houses from 60-69) was not great as it was shadowed by trees and therefore was sandy (no nice grass) and full of leaves, branches etc: and kids got mucky in it in about two seconds. Houses 70-77 seems to get a much better deal with access to a garden made of grass and an opened communal areas where the kids could play in safely.
You can easily walk from one part of the resort to the next through a piste cyclable/pedestrian path. The baby club in Hameau village was about 10 min walk from our house. For easier access to the Hameau village (if like us you have young kids that you have to carry to the baby club), I would recommend houses 95 to 116. They are the closest to the hameau village and not too far from the car park. They are far from the maison du golf pool but closer to the main pool.
In terms of the golf itself, my husband played nine-holes three times and thought the course was excellent. He did not have time to do the 18 holes course. It did looked fantastic though and chatting to locals, it appears to have a great reputation. It was confirmed by the bus loads of golfers accessing it the first week of september.
Description of the house
As you get in the house, you had a small entrance hall with a downstairs loo on the right and the stairs to the bedrooms on the left, a big cupboard and a door to the kitchenette/living area ahead.
The kitchenette has a electrolux cooker, a microwave (which toast your bread), a sink and a dishwasher - it is tiny but enough to cook a meal for four.
The living area has a table for six, a sofa and a samsung flat screen tele with a coffee table. The living area has french door access to the garden (described above). Upstairs you have a small bathroom with a bath and toilets as well as a double bedroom (small but you may just be able to squeeze in one baby bed if you really needed) and a small twin bedroom. The double bedroom has french door access to a balcony.
As I said above, the accommodation is simple (no four star luxuary) but it is perfect for a two-weeks holidays. We have gone with P&V before and we thought this one had more character and compared favourably in terms of size. With P&V, we found that it is always better to book the accommodation bigger than the one you actually need according to the brochure (i.e. Accommodation for 5/6 if it is 4 of you) if you want to be confortable and still have some living space - French holiday makers appear to have an habbit to think that tourist can be treated as tinned sardines (and I am French myself). I asked about the 7/8 house in Moliets (we are expecting twins again for next year!) and they told me that you get an extra room with bunk-beds and a larger living space. It would not work for us for next summer as bunk-beds are not on the cards for a few years yet.
Description of baby-club
It was probably the best part of the whole holidays. We had paid the 115 euros per week per child for the 6 sessions in the baby club. It was money well spent. Our children attended every morning (9.00am to 12.30) during the week and one afternoon (15-18.30 - if you want to take up a day-long activity, you can have them in for the whole day if you pay the lunch time session of 20 euros per child - it was not necessary for us) .
Our children do not attend a creche but they really enjoyed the club. The staff was extremely friendly, professionals and warm. The children loved them. A special mention to Marie, Virginie, Viviane and Elodie who were just fantastic during our two weeks and were well able to handle to the little tears when we left the first few times or when little bumps occured. Every morning the staff asked how they got on the day before and after each session, they told us how they got on during the session. They were able to suppport (and to be honest surpass) our efforts to potty-trained the twins!
Every session had a planned activity ('manipulation', painting, gymnastic) and children appear to be organised in sub-groups according to their age (the baby club is for children 6 months to 3 years) for these as well as unstructured play time. There were no more than 10 children per session and at least three staff there. There are two linked play rooms in the baby club, a sleeping area, a little 'eating areas' with table anbd chairs for their mid-session snack and two outdoor enclosed spaces. There are also toilets and changing areas. The place is cleaned, full of up-to-date toys and very pleasant.
The children really enjoyed their times there and towards the end, one or the other would push us out of the door when we were leaving them there. Their language skills progressed there which shows that they got a lot of attention.
As for us, we got our first genuine holidays since they are born!!!
Description of the rest
We found the staff at the main reception friendly and helpful when it came to finding activities during the three rainy days we had during our stay. We did not have a huge amount of contact with staff in general but when we had to – they were usually prompt to respond
P&V organise an information day on the sunday with stands on things to do in the resort or around it. We did not partake to any of the organised activities (except for me, aquagym which was good fun) but took the info and went to things ourselves when it suited us. I would recommend the visit to the Maison Tenoy (fois gras fabrications).
We did not try the restaurant as it did not look too appealing (a bit old fashion looking and menu a bit blend looking) and we prefered to eat in Vieux Boucaux village, by the beach or in La Ferme Tenoy if we were out of the resort. We only had coffees/drink at the bar a couple of times when we were using the wi-fi in the main reception and when the bar was open (weird opening hours). Just a small note there, the wi-fi was not always working and you had to pay for it which I fail to understand why it is necessary to pay for wi-fi in a resort these days!
In terms of the swimmings pools, they are clean, enclosed and safe (gate all around). There are plenty of sunbeds and we never had a problem accessing several (we were staying in the resort from the 28th of August though) – the pool in Maison du Golf has an interesting shape – the one in the main area is a square. Both pools are quite cold (even if one supposed to be heated) even the baby pools are cold. I supposed it is better at the heigth of the summer
In terms of price, we got a good deal as we went just outside the school holidays and got a discount for booking early - we paid around 1,700 euro for two weeks including the baby clubs sessions for our two kids. Parking is free (unlike other P&V resort )and we did not have any other surprise charges. So it is all we paid. We did our shopping in the Hypermarche leclerc in Souston (the superette on the resort is handy but a bit expensive) and went to the morning markets in Vieux Boucaux (next village (6km) for fresh veg and cheese. There is also a fantastic butcher in Vieux Boucaux in the pedestrian street.
So overall it was a fantastic and relaxing holidays. I would strongly recommend this resort
