We recently spent 7 days at this P&V resort in a very cramped apartment. We are a family of 2 adults and 3 teenagers. First off, my big argument is with Keycamp which is the company I booked through, but unfortunately, I've not been able to find anyplace on their website to comment.
We received a package with a reservation voucher 2 weeks before our trip. NOWHERE on this voucher did it tell us we would be staying at a P&V complex. In fact, there was no address for our apartment at all. We naively believed, as in other towns, once you get there we would find signs leading us to our destination. Needless to say, after 10 hours of driving, there was no sign for "Keycamp". Luckily we had phoned the UK that afternoon for a street address. Our satnav brought us to a large complex that seemed like a resort, but when I went in and showed our voucher to the desk clerk he said he had no idea what "Keycamp" was, even though the address we had was correct. So off we went looking further. 30 minutes later we returned and this time my husband went in and basically shoved the voucher in their face and then they said "oh yes, this is where you should be!" At the bottom of the voucher was a "P&V" reservation number--totally different than our Keycamp voucher number. But it didn't state Pierre & Vacances, just P&V, so we'd no clue what it meant.
Upon entering our apartment at 22.00 we found that 1) it's incredibly small for 5 adults and 2) there are no linens whatsoever. A phone call to the front desk (which is a 3km drive away) informs us that housekeeping has made a mistake but the only help they can offer is for us to come pick up some linens at the reception area. Upon returning my husband says they only had 3 sets left, so we'll have to "make do" until Sunday morning. I'll add that once we received the required linen packages, only 1 contained a duvet cover...the other 3 were just 2 flat sheets. It was ridiculous.
We paid over €1600 euros for our 7 days and it was not money well spent. We were thoroughly disappointed in our accommodation. The house was clean, but hardly spotless. There was no oven, just a tiny combi-microwave...not big enough for a frozen pizza! Kitchen utensils were minimal...we had to buy a decently sharp knife at the supermarket to cut up fruit and veg. The wc was extremely tiny. There was only 1 small trash can in the kitchen for the entire apt, but upon investigation my daughter found a small, bathroom one in the back of a cupboard. Oh, and said cupboard, which was under the sink in the bathroom, fell forward every time you opened it's doors. Evidently it was just thrown in with no attachment whatsoever. All the brochures in the apartment with instructions on how to use the appliances are written only in French.
The sleeping accommodations were not good. There was only 1 bedroom, which contained a double bed. To get in to the bed, you had to walk sideways against the wall, i.e., no extra space at all! There was only 1 window in the room, which only opened full out on to the communal hallway used by all the guests in the complex. Therefore, if it was left open, anyone could just stick their hand in or frankly, just jump in. The teens had to make do with 3 sofa/sleepers which were also in the small living area. They had no privacy at all and there was no room to even put our luggage somewhere out of the way. Thank goodness we had a large balcony which we used as an extra room. And even when it rained, the balcony remained dry, which was helpful.
There is no WiFi in the apartments themselves. The only WiFi available is if you go all the way to the main reception area and pay €3/hr for the privilege. The connection was extremely slow and made even more complicated as you have to pay with a credit card to a website without security. Since we didn't want to chance an unsafe website, we weren't able to use our laptops at all. The tv -- which had no remote -- had only French language channels.
My last point is to say that evidently we stayed there before the UK schools were on vacation. Except for a few Belgian families, we were the only non-French tourists in the entire complex. For us this was not an issue, but I can well imagine for others it wouldn't be much fun. Our kids had looked forward to the much heralded "teenage" night spot, but didn't even go. It was kind of like being a non-member in a members-only country club.
I will add that the pool was wonderful and was put to good use by us. The grounds are gorgeous and very well maintained.
This is not the type of place to stay if you enjoy touring the French countryside....because, frankly, there is not much to see in this part of France. Our days trips consisted of driving 2 hours each way to Bayonne, Biarritz and San Sebastiaan in Spain. There are no charming villages or beautiful scenary close by. If your love golf and the beach, it's fine, but it's not an explorers paradise.
You can be assured that we will not be booking any future vacations via Keycamp.
