My husband and I frequently stay at rental cabins in the mountains of North Carolina so we, of course, compared our stay with that of cabins back home. We assumed a price adjustment of about 20% for CA inflation, and most cabins we rent in NC are in line with Homestead at somewhere between $150-175/night. All in all, it's a fine place to stay within reasonable distance of Yosemite. We stayed in the Garden cottage and found it to be pleasant. Aside from the critter I heard rooting around in the walls or crawlspace, the location is perfectly quiet. And the breakfast goodies were a welcome amenity. The bed was comfy, and when my husband asked for additional pillows Larry kindly asked if we wanted fluffy or flat. Larry, Cindy, and Melissa provide wonderful hospitality.
A few things we thought were "off" for such a cute cabin at this nightly rate: Salt & pepper packets in the kitchen rather than actual shakers, dull/cheap steak knives, lack of bath salts in the bathroom for a tub soak, few area rugs (more would help to warm up the cool tile floor), no shower cap, no lighted alarm clock in the bedroom, and a shampoo/conditioner combo packet rather than separate containers. Also, my husband pointed out the rain-style shower head was intriguing in appearance but made the actual experience a bit awkward. And we found that the narrow shower curtain resulted in a loss of heat while in the shower so it could get a bit nippy in there.
So maybe we should start our own cabin rental business if we're this particular and observant!? Really, it's a lovely place. It's just that we find the little things to be as important as the obvious bigger things.
