Finally getting around to writing a review of Watford Ferry Apartments, in particular the Yellow Fin, which I've wanted to do to provide a more recent perspective. My wife and I stayed there for almost a week in mid-August, 2011, as we celebrated our First Anniversary. Both the apartment and the owners, particularly Kathie with whom we had most contact, made our stay a memorable one and when we (hopefully) return to Bermuda, we'll be hoping Yellow Fin is available.
To touch on a couple of the issues I've seen raised on different boards about this property:
(1) Cleanliness/Accommodations: We have no complaints about the cleanliness (or accommodations) of the Yellow Fin. We prepared for our trip beforehand, knew that there could be insects (hey, this is an Island!) and we dealt with it accordingly. Get some good spray (easily available in local stores) and give most likely areas a quick spray in morning and night. This was not at all an issue. Dishes, supplies, etc. were fine. We thought the bedroom loft was very cozy and the small deck was great for breakfasts and views of the Sound. If you're looking to stay in top-of-the-line luxury, then find a four-star resort. If, like us, you want a nice place where you can be on your own and maybe get more of a feel for the day-to-day life of the island (as much as one can in one week), then this is an excellent choice.
(2) Transportation: There was a bus strike that started on the day we arrived. (Can't say we planned for that!) Fortunately, it was resolved the next day because unless one wants to taxi around the island or rent a scooter (we'd rather spend the money on good food/wine), the bus is the best way to get around from Watford Ferry. Of course, there's the ferry which is steps from the front door which is great and we used on trip to Hamilton, but it doesn't run at all times of day so you may want to use bus. (BTW, walking all the way from Watford Ferry to the Royal Dockyard, which we did one day, is a decent-sized hike so if you're going to try that, give yourself plenty of time.) I also want to note that Kathie was very helpful to us in getting around and the very nice woman who taxi'd us to and from the airport also helped us get a taxi to our anniversary restaurant when we found out the buses weren't running at the time we needed one...our bad.
There's much more to say about staying in Bermuda (ie convenience to East Coast and friendliness of the people), but I'll just say that we had a great time celebrating our One Year in Bermuda, and the enjoyment was only accentuated by our stay at Watford Ferry Apts with very nice, accommodating, generous hosts (who, as Kathie has said elsewhere, respect guests' privacy, but will be there when something's needed).
One final thing: Take advantage of location and go to Salt Rock Grill and Sushi Bar which is a 5-10 minute walk away. Very nice!
