“Camp Cambridge”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 January 2012

Our family has been visiting this property annually for over 10 years, and we keep coming back. The Cambridge experience is supported by 3 pillars - beautiful property, wonderful staff, and other guests with whom we enjoy sharing our time. We look forward to returning each year.

Our children were younger when we first began staying at Cambridge Beaches, and now meet the new minimum age requirement. We use our Cambridge vacation as a way to decompress after a hectic school year and to re-connect as a family, so staying in Somerset works for us. It is secluded, but there is golf, tennis, boating and water sports on or near the property. Our favorite is to take a walk in the water at low tide to explore the islands just off shore.

The Tamarisk Dining Room is one of the most picturesque on the island, as the majority of the tables are on the terrace overlooking Mangrove Bay. The wait staff is outstanding and is willing to adjust the menu offerings to one's liking. We tend to dress for dinner (Men in jacket and tie, Bermuda shorts and knee socks. Women in Lilly Pulitzer dresses.) making every night a special occasion. The guests tend to mingle and take the time to become acquainted and often end up sharing tables during their stay. Breezes on Long Bay beach offers a casual dining alternative with another outstanding view!

While change is expected, some things are better left alone and kept intact. A part of vacationing is to experience something unique, lovely and extraordinary. High Tea used to be an elegant experience for which one dressed and enjoyed in the main house. Now, it is more casual, being served to those in bathing suits and cover-ups in the bar area.

Though Cambridge is not perfect, it does strive to meet expectations. The front desk staff is not a shining example of competency, yet the manager and guest relations staff are genuine in their desire to ensure any concerns are addressed. Enough cannot be said of the waitstaff. They are truly sincere in their efforts to serve and assure all needs are met. The proof is in the number of repeat guests listed on "the wall," for those visiting five times or more.

Cambridge is a cottage colony, unique to Bermuda. The main house serves as the dining and gathering place. If one prefers the impersonal high rise resort hotel formula, this is not for them. The rooms are spread throughout the extensive property. As for the guest profile, all ages and geographies are represented which make for wonderful conversation and interaction. Cambridge has something for everybody.

Though we are fortunate enough to travel the world, we always start our summers at "Camp Cambridge."

“A beautiful hotel that keeps us returning.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 January 2012

Because my family is from Bermuda we used to go almost every year, now since they came up with the stupid rule that you can't bring children during certain months we have not gone nearly as often. Because in my family we have two very well behaved children, and whenever we go no children have ever caused a disturbance we find it very hard to fathom why they would not allow children through certain months. None the less it is a amazing hotel that we keep returning to.

“Lovely Cottage, Privacy, Friendly Staff, but Some Poor Service and Food Poisoning Nearly Ruined Honeymoon”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 January 2012

My husband and I stayed at the Cambridge in January 2012 for six days for our honeymoon. The Cambridge resort is pretty and private, and the view from our cottage was gorgeous, but the negative aspects of the Cambridge and its price outweighed the good.

The two aspects of the Cambridge that I enjoyed were the lovely, private cottage (we stayed at the Sunset: good-sized private pool, spacious sitting area, and wonderful bathroom) and the friendly breakfast and cottage service staff. However, the rest of the service we received was below my expectations. The management staff did nothing when I got food poisoning from their food except try to deflect blame. (For the two days before I got violently sick, I had only eaten food prepared in the Cambridge kitchen.) The housekeeping service was average to inadequate. We walked into our cottage one day to find that the housekeeping staff had broken a wine glass. Two days later, my husband stepped on a big piece of glass. Housekeeping never replenished the toiletries, even when we asked, in person, three times. Lastly, Cambridge is far away from any of the sights or activities in Bermuda, which is great for privacy, but difficult for sightseeing (which you'd think was relatively easy on a 2 mile by 21 mile island). I thought the hotel would arrange shuttle tours or some other coordinated transportation or events, but when I asked the front desk, they offered no such help or advice. I would only recommend Cambridge to people who do not plan to leave their hotel for the duration of their trip and who are not overly concerned with value. I loved that cottage, but I don't think the whole experience is worth the price.

“Tranquil location, lovely, friendly staff”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 January 2012 via mobile

The staff make a big contribution to enjoyment of this place. It's a lovely location with nice rooms and suites. Parts of the resort are tired and desperately in need of an uplift. For a 4 star hotel some of the furnishings and equipment in the rooms are cheap and faulty. The New Year's gala was appallingly overpriced and very third rate, however.

An overall nice stay in the company of nice people and staff

most excellent setting with discrete cottage accomodation. The 9 beaches and 2 pools provide wonderful clear safe swimming -also fishing. the service is excellent and there is a plesant village within easy walking distance with pub and restaurants. not a place for children. we shall return
