“BEAUTIFUL RETREAT”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 October 2010

I was lucky to have the oppotunity to stay at the hotel, at no extra charge, due to double booking at the backpacker house. The hotel has contemporary style but retains charm & character. The staff were friendly and helpful, and as a solo female traveller, I felt very safe and relaxed and have recommended the hotel and island highly since. I think it would be lovely as a romantic getaway.

“A true haven.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 September 2010

Everything about Colonsay and the hotel are magical. Our only regret was not being able to stay longer.
Public rooms amazing in an understated way, it just oozes peace. The bedrooms are lovely.
The locally sourced food was a delight.

“great hotel, fantastic public rooms, top breakfast and lovely location....”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 September 2010

The hotel is really relaxed, staff friendly and helpful, sorting out bikes, run to airport, the extra things that make a real difference.
Lovely room, space downstairs offered a really good range of bar, lounge, sofas all over the place and attractive local art. Food, both dinner and breakfast excellent, fine informal lunches, good and fair priced wine selection. Website description of everything spot on. The Island is something special as well, fab weekend and great to fly on the wee plane.

“A wonderful place”

Five days of sunshine helped a lot, but even if the weather had been poor, we'd still have enjoyed every minute on Colonsay, with the Colonsay Hotel as a fine base to enjoy it all from. The staff were a delight - all very friendly and helpful. The food was great. The rooms and public areas were all smart and stylish without being too 'boutique' and out of keeping with the island. The price of the room was good value too, with two adults and two children all fitting comfortably into 'Pigs' Paradise'.

The only criticisms I would make is that the bed was pretty uncomfortable - new mattresses would be a good investment) and the noise from the kitchen (?) below was noticeable, although not after 11-ish at night or before 7-ish in the morning, but a bit of soundproofing here would be good.

Colonsay itself is stunning - not only the beaches but the interior countryside too. Hiring bikes is the way to go - cycling round the island is easy and a far better way of getting to know it.
