We enjoyed our stay at Holiday Inn Alcobendas, the room was comfortable and everything worked!
We had difficulties finding the place which was a bit stressful because it was getting dark and we were walking around industrial estates!! The postcode of the address doesn't show the correct location on Google maps, and the address "Crta.Fuencarral (M-603) Km, 15" (motorway) is not helpful when you're walking from the metro (La Granja). The "Esquina calle Metalurgia, 1-3" bit of the address is accurate but I think this street doesn't come up on Google.
If you want to get to Carrefours supermarket (massive) then walk across the footbridge. Then you have to do a bit of rough off the tracks walking through a patches of gravel and grass by the side of the motorway, turning right as you cross the bridge.
It's convenient to get a bus outside the hotel, you can take one to Plaza de Castilla which is then a central location for travelling to other places.
If you want to get a kind of travel card at a metro station, it cost slightly more because Alcobendas is outside the regular tube zone. We worked out that the easiest way was to buy a ticket called Combinada which means you can use it for 10 journeys in either zone, and either for one person or 5 journeys for two people (put ticket through system twice for this).
As I said, our stay was comfortable at the Holiday Inn but we did leave with a bitter taste in our mouth because my girlfriend's hair straightener disappeared from the bathroom on the final day! No sign of it anywhere and the staff didn't seem to be greatly shocked, just went through the formalities of saying they asked the cleaners and it couldn't be found. Strange.
Good breakfast for the price though!
