“Very good...unless you get room #55”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 January 2011

This is our second time here, loved it the first time.
We got a room overlooking the pool and upon our return from a walk in the PM the room smelled of smoke. When we called to ask to be changed, we must have angered the gentleman at the reception because he put us in room #55 and now we are on top of the kitchen, with terrible noises from the dinner setup...I can just imagine what it will be tomorrow morning during breakfast.
Such a shame, because we drove out of our way to visit this parador to have this nasty person give us the worst room in the house in a half empry place....

“Quiet, Quality, Cultured”

The second time we have stayed here. Its off the beaten track but worth the visit.
Very attractive building with attractive grounds.
Very good Parador service throughout all areas and we enjoyed our trip again. Only one area that could have been improved is the breakfast, not what a Parador breakfast used to be for the money charged! (seems to be the case in all Paradors these days sadly)
Out of season, Almagro itself is very, very quiet so don't expect too much.

“An excellent Parador with one of the better Parador Restaurants”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 October 2010

We endorse the generally excellent comments about this Parador - an interesting historical building around several beautiful small courtyards, situated only 10 minutes walk from the old town centre. Unlike some of the other Paradors, this one offerred free parking.

We were particularly impressed by the excellent professional service in the restaurant - definately not always the case at Paradors where they sometimes seem to employ not very suitable waiters & waitresses. The food was good, although as usual the amount of vegetables provided with the main course was inadequate by UK standards. The wine was excellent & good value.

Our room was very good, the bathroom worked well and we particularly appreciated the free Wi Fi.

Pleasnt reception staff too.

“A fabulous place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 October 2009

We were very pleasantly surprised by this place, which is steeped in character. We had not expected such an interesting and character-filled hotel. The staff were extremely helpful and courteous and dinner, which was excellent, was served by very charming staff. The rooms are rustic in style and very clean. Almagro itself is fabulous, and wel worth a visit. Will definitely go there again.

“What a great place to stay if in this part of Spain”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 July 2009

I have to ask whether our friend from Tel Aviv who reviewed this hotel on April 19 2009 stayed in the same hotel! We have stayed in at least 21 paradors and visited quite a few more. The original part of the hotel was a 16thCentury convent which was been considerably extended in the same style and it is impossible to tell the old from the new. The hotel is very spacious, in very good condition, well decorated and the common parts and our room were spotlessly clean, with an enclosed and large private car park. There are lots of courtyards and a very good pool to enjoy in summer. The hotel is full of antique furniture and old pictures and exudes peace and quiet. The day we arrived the hotel was full due to a wedding reception but this did not affect the service or the quality of food at dinner. Breakfast next morning was busy but this hardly had any effect on the service. The staff were extremely efficient, friendly and attentive. The restaurant food and service were excellent. We had booked a superior room which was extremely spacious and very comfortable with very effective air conditioning (essential as the temperatuires during our 3 night stay reached the upper 30s centigrade) but the standard rooms looked more than adequate. Amongst the best paradors we have stayed in. Almagro is a delightful town with an intersting plaza major including a unique open air theatre for comedians and a good base from which to explore Quihote country. Do not bother with Cuidad Real which we felt was rather a dump.
