“birdtrip in June”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 October 2011

In June me and my son stayed for a week in this beautiful hotel. The owners are very friendly and helpful people who are doing their bests to make your visit as comfortable as possible. The house, hotelroom, swimmingpool and garden are excellent. We enjoyed both dinner and breakfast and were very satisfied. The hotel is beautifully situated in a superb enviroment. This place is one of Europe's best spots for birdwatching: Monfraque and the plains are just round the corner and not crowded by tourists. We are from the Netherlands and can recommend this place to fellow birders. We will return and book this hotel again!

“Great location, average hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 August 2011

We stayed for three nights in July 2011 as a family of four.

We had two double rooms with a joining small living room, all of which were clean. Unfortunately particularly the living room smelt rather musty, not easy to avoid in winter in this climate where buildings tend not to have central heating, but still a little offputting. Bathrooms were fine, but the mattresses had a plastic covering and were not too comfortable, so we didn't sleep all that well. Each room had a fridge, but these didn't work (had the plugs cut off).

The location is lovely with a really nice view across the low rolling hills towards Trujillo, and the swimming pool is also nice (if a little rustic!).

Breakfast is simple as described in other reviews, but that is usual for this part of Spain and was fine for us. The homemade jams were nice but indeed overall you shouldn't expect breakfast to be a highlight!

All in all OK, but if visiting the area again we would probably try somewhere else.

Thank you for your comment. We agree there is always something to improve, we’re conscious. I ‘d like to say that down fitted sheet covering the mattresses are not plastic and must to be used for hygienic reasons. Nevertheless, we deeply regret you not mentioned this detail during you stay because we are pleased to attend any claim or doubt from our guests at the very moment they ask to us for. We have different types of covering and we could solve the matter and make your stay more confortable.

Two years ago we decided to keep the mini-bars unplugged after 8 years offering this service. In fact, we do not include any reference about this facility on our website. We are conscious of global warming and in this case low consumption of items in comparison to electricity needed for the mini-bars maintenance it seemed tu us a non responsible use of energy. They still remain in each room available for any guest who wants to plug-in it and make use in their own convenience. It is true that one of the fridges didn’t work, but the other one worked well, so you had a fridge for a family of four. As above mentioned, we regret you didn’t let us know this at time giving us the chance to clarify and solve any setback.

Full breakfast consists of fresh milk, yogurt, cereal (2 types), slices of toast (2 types) including a toaster (improving), white bread, sweets, butter, pieces of fresh fruit, boiled eggs, cold meats (2 types), cheese, home made quince, chorizo pate, chocolate, honey, a selection of jams including 3 home made jams from the fruits of our garden, olive oil, garlic, coffee (cafetiere method), tea, authentic orange juice with pulp, not a from a carton (also improving this). Honestly we think it is a good selection of savory and sweet items for a breakfast in a country inn and included in our prices. It is not easy to fit everybody liking but we do our best to improve so thank you very much for your comments.

“not quite what I expected”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 August 2011

I booked this because of Tripadvisor reviews but would choose the Parador (although 40euros a night dearer) or NH if I were to return. Trujillo and surrounding areas are lovely and we visited Merida, Guadeloupe and the national park from here.
Our room (the most expensive at 90 euros) was pleasant, but very dark, with a magnificent view and, like the rest of the hotel, really needed serious updating as it was circa 1970 style. The room was however immaculately clean as was the pool and in the room the minibar was empty and we were told to use it as our fridge which was useful. The TV did not work. Wifi signal was really iffy and difficult and could only be received in the region of the owners office.
We found all the other guests to be really delightful, mostly non smoking, well educated Brits who were keen birdwatchers. It would have been nice to socialise in the evenings after dinner but there wasnt anywhere for guests to sit and chat as the guests sitting room was also the family music/tv room. It wasnt somewhere to relax freely and the pool only had 8 plastic seats around it which isnt enough for a hotel with 8 rooms and the few ricketty bamboo seats on the verandah were on their last legs. The breakfast and evening meal were really beyond description and with no choice and expensive at 24 euros a head. We left a day early - I had lost 10lb in 5 days and was desperate to get back to Madrid for some decent food.

We are very sorry to know you might expected other kind of accommodation and for that reason your stay was not as pleasent as we would have like, but let me say that detailed information about our place and services is available on our website. Of course, we will work to improve on this as much as we can to minimize any misunderstanding. We are not a luxury 4 stars hotel like the Parador or NH chain can be consider neither have a wide staff. We feel proud and grateful for the comparison but is a quite different approach and we have little in common. This is a family-run country inn, (rural hotel, rural house). Our house only have eight rooms available and thanks to this we are able to give our guests a personalized and homely attention.

I do remember your husband watching an international football match on TV with some other guests in our family living room, I sincerely thought he was enjoying that time. You also might remember our daugther Marina playing piano for you and other guests, occasionally accompanied by our son Alejandro who plays clarinet... That’s what our business is really based on. We offer a family-run country inn and share our way of life with anyone who’s looking for something special. And we can proudly say that after more than 10 years running this business scores of guests are now very good friends coming back repeatedly to stay at our place.

This house was built in the mid seventies. Deeply reforms were made in the year 2000. We are concious that there is always something to improve and we’re on it .

Honestly we think it is a good selection of savory and sweet items for a breakfast included in our prices.

We do appreciate your time to write such a detailed comment about your stay with us and we will do our best to improve if it’s all possible. Also really grateful for your overall evaluation particularly on the Cleanliness and Sleep Quality points.

“very pleasant well kept hotel let down by breakfast”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 May 2011

We had previously stayed at the nearby Finca Santa Marta but recent ambivalent reviews of it made us try somewhere else this time . Vina Las Torres is a large private house hotel with delightful gardens and courtyard, set in a charming rural location which as birdwatchers was ideal for us. The owners are very friendly and helpful. The rooms were clean and the en-suite bathrooms large although the minibars were no longer stocked and I couldn't work my television but these were very minor problems . However the three rooms we were given weren't the spacious rooms shown on the website although as single male occupants of double rooms it is perhaps understandable that we weren't given the best rooms. So it should have been perfect but somehow wasn't. Compared to Finca Santa Marta the hotel lacked a certain charm and atmosphere, having only been built in the last 30 or so years and the dining room is a far cry for the Finca's ancient olive oil press but this is hardly the owners' fault. More disconcerting however, was being told on arrival told that there would be no evening meals available as the chef had been given a few days holiday, especially as this was the principal reason for chosing this hotel as opposed to others. To be fair their website doesn't seem to mention evening meals but many of the reviews attested to the delicious home cooked food available. Breakfasts too were disappointing with a limited selection. We would arrive late for breakfast after having been out birding, (so it is possible that had we arrived earlier it might have been better). There was no fresh fruit other than oranges and the piled toast/fresh bread slices were cold, hard and unfresh. This could have been easily remedied by providing a toaster in the dining room and a loaf to freshly cut ourselves. The orange juice appeared to be from a carton which was odd given that oranges grow in abundance in the garden. Coffee was individually poured by the owner instead of coffee pots being provided which meant you had to ask everytime you wanted a refill. Sufffice to say that i did not look forward to breakfast which is virtually unheard of for me! So to sum up; a pleasant and well kept hotel with friendly/helpful owners but let down by lack of evening meals and poor breakfasts.

Room Tip: ask if you room appears on the website

We thank you very much for taking the time to write such a detailed comment about your stay with us and we specially appreciate your overall evaluation. We have taken good note about your comments so they are useful for us to improve some details.

Regarding to the accomodation we would like to point out that single rooms are not available at our place. They are all spacious enough for minimum two people and more if junior suite are requested (naturally at a higher price). Despite this, when needed, as in your case, we specially rate double room/single use at a low price (56eur plus tax) and never mind to send information with description, photo and rate details as well as about meals to anyone on request.

On the other hand, we are pleased to attend any claim or doubt from our guests at the very moment they ask to us for.
Every room has a properly working TV. Since digital terrestrial television recently came to the area occasionally retuning still is needed.
Moreover, although we do not have a bar, beverages can be ordered and a price list can be found in the bedroom.

Full breakfast we serve consists of fresh milk, yogurt, cereal (2 types), slices of toast (2 types), white bread, sweets, butter, pieces of fresh fruit, boiled eggs, cold meats (2 types), cheese, home made quince, chorizo pate, chocolate, honey, a selection of jams including 3 home made jams from the fruits of our garden, olive oil, garlic, coffee (cafetiere method so we serve it in the moment), tea and orange juice. Unfortunately, we can’t take profit of the oranges growing in our garden since they are too sharp and not always mature enough for a natural juice. However, we now serve authentic orange juice with pulp, not from a carton anymore and although this is expensive for us any increase have been done on our rates. We honestly think it is a good selection of savory and sweet items for a breakfast included in a country inn prices. It is not easy to fit everybody liking but we do our best to improve. Best regards.

“Beautiful House and Rural Charm”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 April 2011

My husband and I really enjoyed our stay at Vina Las Torres. We also really liked the city of Trujillo and the Extremadura region, which were beautiful, rustic, and not over run by tourists. There was a relaxed feel at the hotel as well as the general area.

The positive aspects of the hotel greatly outweighed any negatives.
Pros: quiet, relaxing, close to nature, spacious room, nice location for birdwatchers, mini-refrigerator, outdoor pool, wide selection of breakfast items (cold meats, cheese, two types of juice, coffee/tea, cereal, donuts, bread, hard boiled eggs, fresh pieces of fruit, etc.), and the best the behaved outside dog, The owners were kind, friendly and enthusiastic. Furthermore, they allowed us to check-in early since we arrived directly from the Madrid Airport very early in the morning.

Cons: quality of the coffee (I think it was instant but not sure), no wi-fi in the room, and lack of access to the indoor living areas late at night from the tower rooms.

In closing, we would not hesitate to recommend Vina Las Torres!

Thank you for your comment. Always something to improve, we’re on it. Coffee we serve is not instant, we make it following ‘French press’ method, ‘cafetiere’ in UK. Sometimes we make it less strong…. Thanks again.
