“Convenient and Charming”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 February 2012

You can't beat the convenience of this hotel if you're staying in Marfa. It's easy to find, easy to park, no line at check in or check out (at least that was true for me in January). My room was clean and quiet. The bathroom was a little small but I'm not complaining (though my spouse would have). No elevator, which could be a problem for some people. The lobby is spacious and charming in an old-fashioned Texas kind of way (buffalo trophy by the door, huge leather sofa, etc) and on the three nights I stayed there was always a fire roaring in the fireplace. Free coffee in the mornings. The shops and galleries in the lobby are quite nice. Some people seem to thrill that Elizabeth Taylor et al stayed here when filming Giant back in the 50s. I'll admit, I thrill a little.

Room Tip: Check their website for photos and descriptions. The rooms do vary quite a bit.

We were in Marfa for a wedding and the staid at The Paisano for the weekend. WE had a room over looking the courtyard, with a small porch balcony. Nice rooms, good amenities, and some cool history.

Room Tip: If you are party of the a party at the hotel balcony rooms are good. If it is not your party, and yo...

“An interesting place”

We spent one night in The Hotel Paisano on a trip through Big Bend country. While we enjoyed seeing the hotel, I doubt if we will ever detour to stay there again. The room was comfortable enough and it was quiet. The bath was small and had no counter area, but it's a historic property and that is to be expected. According to the front desk, the elevator hasn't worked in years. They seemed a bit annoyed repeating this info to each new arrival. (I can imagine it is tiring!) We lugged our bags up stairs. The thermostat in the hallway that controls multiple rooms could be an issue, but on this cold, windy night, it wasn't a problem. I guess all that shared had the same idea of ideal temperature. The lobby was authentic to the period, but seemed drafty and too quiet; the Giant memorabilia was interesting; and I enjoyed my dinner in the restaurant. (order that chicken dish with the green sauce). I am glad we did see the hotel, but the property's appearance is a bit tired. I did like that there was a fireplace that was burning when I went down for coffee the next morning, It was a good experience, just not great. The management should focus on making the lobby more inviting. Soft music and rugs would help with echos.

Room Tip: Maybe paying extra for a suite would enhance the experience. We had a standard room with two double...

“Pleasant historic hotel.”

Spent one night in the James Dean room on our way home to Houston. Loved the photos of the
"Giant" cast. Room was small but clean and comfortable. Really had the feel of the Thirties.
Very pleasant sitting in the courtyard, sipping margaritas before dinner. Will be back next year!

“Grand, but needs some TLC.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 December 2011 via mobile

Stayed two nights on recent trip to Marfa. Selected mostly for the grandeur pictured and the nostalgia for the era of hotels opened before asto turf became a poolside staple. The grand tiled lobby, the comfortable bed and lovely mezzanine courtyard with fireplace were only slightly tarnished by water fixtures that did not work, heater that required masters degree in engineering and drapery hanging from tenuous last hook attached to wall. Staff VERY pleasant and helpful.
