Although we stayed at Motor Inns of America by default as there was an unknown function at the University the weekend we wanted to stay that made finding a room a challenge, we found our stay at Motor Inns of America to be a pleasant experience.

The outside of the Inns is an older facade which could be off-putting, but the complex IS under renovation. Our room was very clean, had two full beds, was non-smoking and had extras we hadn't expected, i.e. a mini fridge, microwave and a hairdryer (which the Red Roof Inns at Austin didn't provide while charging a much higher nightly rate when we visited another relative at the local University). We also found a very nice mini breakfast in the office each morning which was pleasantly diverse and again, was not provided at the higher rated Red Roof Inns South, Austin.

Motor Inns of America is very convenient to the Texas Tech University!

If I needed to go back to Lubbock for a Texas Tech function again, I would not hesitate to consider Motor Inns of America.

I booked a room at The Motor Inns of America in Lubbock, Texas during Family Weekend at Texas Tech University. It was close to the university and convenient to shopping. Those are the only two things I can say about that motel that are positive. The room we stayed in was a non-smoking room, however, when I went to turn back the bed, there was an unlit cigarette sitting on the nightstand beside the bed. Obviously no one had cleaned the room very well if the cigarette was there from another guest. Then I started looking around. They advertised a refrigerator and microwave. They did have these two things, however, both had stuck on food in them and they were not even clean on the outside. The microwave appeared to be about 15 years or more old. I doubt that it even works. The bathroom had hair in the tub and on the shower curtain. The toilet was broken and you had to remove the tank lid to stop the tank from filling by hand. The side of the tank was broken. The corners of the bathroom floor had dirt and grime built up from not being cleaned. There was also hair on the floor in the bathroom and on the lavatory sink. The walls had had some sort of liquid or body fluid splattered on them in the bathroom area and in the bedroom. The carpets were so dirty that my daughter, who had put on clean white socks after taking a shower, walked from the bathroom to the front door and I told her to put her shoes on. She sat down and I seen the bottom of her socks. They were brown from the dirty carpet. Yuck!! The furniture hadn't been dusted and it was in bad condition. I tried to get the motel to cancel our reservation and they said I would have to do it through hotels.com. I contacted hotels.com and they said that since I had already used one night (which I hadn't actually stayed one night, just checked in), they could cancel my reservation, but not refund the money. It was horrible and we will never stay there again. We recommend that no one else does either.
