The sign out front says its the best in the county, and when you find out Beaumont never was in Hardin County this motel's competition may be accounted for on one hand. That's not to say their standards are sub-par by any means.

Our family stayed for two days over the weekend while in the area for a wedding. I believe we occupied 6 rooms and I never heard any major complaints. Our TV remotes worked, rat traps were in place at the end of the halls (not rooms) to keep unwanted guests out (which we never thought twice about nor encountered). The motel grounds were freshly mowed and the fountain near the front doors gave it a quaint East Texas charm that sets it apart from the rest of the competition. The pool was clean and the hot tub was warm to the touch even though we never had time to use either.

The only area I saw that could use a little attention was the continental breakfast. It was a little on the light side so we opted for a sit down breakfast at Momma Jack's right down the street.

We forgot to bring a cord to our laptop for the internet and as far as we know wifi is not provided in the rooms, but we were too busy to need to get online anyway.

The room rates on the back of the room doors are about $25 to $30 more expensive than the Super 8 website (which is normal) so since you're already in front of your computer reserve online before you arrive.

My biggest complaint about the Super 8 in Kountze (SE Texas) is the lasck of sencerity when we told them that their free internet wasn't working in our rooms. We chose the hotel because it was close to our work area and we needed internet access to do part of our job. "Someone is coming to fix it" was always the response, and after more than 3 weeks, we decieded to relocate. Another problem was mice, unkempt pool, and broken TV remotes. I describe it as the "mediocre 8". However, if you are someone traveling to see the Big Thicket National Forest and do not need internet access, then you may be more satisfied with the Super 8 in Kountze. I also want to add that the town itself is a depressed coommunity, so you may want to avoid it altogether.
