Service: Check in was very easy. Gail checked me in and immediately gave me my room number and room keys with a smile. I even came by the desk later that night and she gave me a baggie of fresh baked cookies! Check-out was even easier. Sometime throughout the night, they slipped my invoice under the door. They have an express check out service where all you have to do is leave the room keys in the room and just call the front desk. You don't even have to stop to check-out. So that made things easier. I put my "do not disturb" sign up when I left the room and when I got back, there was a little note on my door with a bag of fresh toiletries and towels. I thought that was very nice, since usually if you miss housekeeping, hotels usually forget about you. I stayed at the Marriott and they didn't even do that for me. Also, if you want to sleep in past 8:30 am, put your "do not disturb" sign up. Housekeeping start knocking on doors around this time.
Room (#122): I got the King Jacuzzi Suite this time, versus the regular King Suite. (See my other review dated 8/12 from my previous stay).
There was a complimentary bag of microwave popcorn and a bottled water. The room is the same size as the regular King Suite, except of course there is a jacuzzi right by the bed. Since the jacuzzi limits the free space in the room, you get a smaller desk and no sitting area like the regular king suite. I didn't mind either way. The 42" tv is always a big plus. Small microwave and mini-fridge in a cabinet. There is also a large humidifier in the room other than the AC/heater unit. The ceiling fan was nice since it helped circulate the air in the room. The jacuzzi tub has a timer knob on the wall that you have to turn before pushing the on button in the jacuzzi. Little weird since the dial is over by the fridge and not right next to the tub. The alarm clock is also an iPod dock so you can charge/listen to your iPod when you're in your room.
The only real negative about my room is that the cylinder pillow with the La Quinta letters on it was really dirty. There were stains all over it, as if it had never been cleaned. It was a little gross since it was sitting on the sheets.
Bathroom: The bathroom is normal sized. Nothing above the normal. There are little tub stickers on the bottom of the tub to prevent slipping/falling. They need to be updated. Some were peeling off and kept scratching my feet. Not too big of an issue, but thought I'd share it.
Hallway Music: In my previous review I said that the hallway music was pretty loud. I'm not sure if it was because I was on the first floor or because the lobby noise toned it down, but the music wasn't that loud this time. A lot better.
Mornings: I wasn't able to catch the free breakfast again this time. However, I heard people in the hallway in the morning say that they were suprised on how good it was.
All and all, another great stay! Again, I would highly recommend this place for anything. It is a little out of the busy downtown of Houston, but it's worth it. Just a quiet relaxing hotel on the outskirts of the city. Also, don't forget to ask for Gail! You'll feel like a VIP when she assists you!
