I hate picking ratings. As far as Holiday Inn Express hotels go, it's lower than average for the ones I stay at, by far. Most of the ones I stay at are newly constructed, with interior hallways.
This is an old building that was obviously something like a Super 8 motel before it became a Holiday Inn Express. It has a Super 8 hotel feel to it. There are exterior hallways, it's an older building, and the walls are concrete with stucco painted over them. The room was pretty tiny, with no pictures.
They say they're in the process of renovating furniture. I don't know if mine was. If so, I fear the non-renovated ones. It was okay, I mean, perfectly functional, just really cheap and boring. Moreso than the average hotel.
But the bathroom area was relatively decent. Don't get me wrong, it was nothing luxurious, since it came from whatever Super 8 hotel stock was there before. But they replaced the countertop, and there was the standard shower with good pressure, and they had all the signature HI Express bath amenities there.
Other odds and ends include free high speed internet in the room (a wired connection over the desk), a standard HI Express breakfast in a cramped dining area, and a computer with printer in the lobby for guest use. This was particularly convenient for printing out my boarding pass.
So, eh. If I was rating against other HI Express hotels, I'd give it a rating lower. But since they identified themselves as 2-star, I guess they're probably about average. The rooms were just worn but clean, and the staff was friendly.
