“Retro 70's chic”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2012

We did not originally intend to stay at this resort but just ended up there. By the looks of it, it was probably built in the 70's and I am sure it was the best of the best at that time. It is still a neat place to get away. Our room was very comfortable and clean. They serve a full breakfast in the morning which is nice but the food is a little bland. We had drinks in the bar Friday and Saturday nights. On Friday, there were not many people in the bar but Saturday the bar was packed and everyone was having a great time. The only thing i was disappointed about is that i wanted to go in the gift shop on Sunday before we headed home. The sign on the door said they opened at 9:30 on Sundays. It was 11:00 and the shop was not open. I would go back to this resort. It's not the Hilton but it's still a nice place for the money.

“Just so-so”

We were spending the night just to get away. I looked at several other properties where I could use my award points, but in the end selected the Inn of the Hills.

The lobby area was very attractive but once you got past that the old hotel/motel smell hits you. I had selected one of the loft (Junior suite) rooms that you get to with the winding staircase in the lobby. 20 years ago the room may have been really nice, I like the loft area with the king size bed. But the rest is threadbare and bare bones. The one window looks out to the roof and the AC units. The analog TV is maybe a 23" - maybe. The AC unit on the window wall left us too warm or too cold at various points in the night. The couch had matching burn marks on both kitchens and the paint on the bannisters and railings going up to the loft had a lot of chips in them.

It said the place was under renovation. It appeared almost empty while we were there, I guess they didn't have a renovated room available.

We had drinks in the bar before going to dinner - timed for Happy Hour and we were the only ones there and enjoyed several nice $3 mixed drinks.

The buffet breakfast this morning was certainly better than the normal free hotel breakfast - and parts of it were ok. The eggs were old and dry as were the hashbrowns - I had a couple of bites and put them aside in favor of a biscuit with cream gravy, The banana was good! We were the only ones eating in that part of the restaurant yet I had to go out in the lobby to get a second cup of coffee because the waitress was busy doing other stuff.

I see no reason to ever go back.

Room Tip: Ask for a renovated room.

We value your feedback. It's unfortunate your stay was not enjoyable and that you did not receive a remodeled room. Yes, we are in the process of remodeling the property including our guest rooms. The issues you mentioned with your room are being addressed in the remodel. We hope that you will consider visiting us again in one of our newly remodeled rooms.

“Nice family place”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 January 2012

My family and I stayed here for 2 days. We requested the remodeled rooms which were very nice. Right outside our room was a small play area and a tennis/basketball court. Our kids had a great time. The beds were super comfy!!! The only reason I didn't give this a 5 was because the walls/ ceilings were not the slightest sound-proof. But, the quality room far outweighed that one little problem. Great place!!! Very affordable!!

“Inn of the Hills is convenient and has an excellent breakfast.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 January 2012

We picked this hotel because it was close to the start of our Texas Hill bike route.
The rooms are good size and the price is just right.

Room Tip: Ask for a second floor room to avoid the crowds at the pool.

“Nice place, location; Had a good time for New Year's Eve”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 January 2012

My boyfriend and I stayed here for New Year's Eve after riding the Three Sisters. The hotel is large, comfortable, very nice lobby...gives you the feeling of a mountain lodge. I had requested an updated room, which we were given. The rooms are dated as far as set-up goes - a 60's motor inn, but the room we were in had updated interior. The only complaints I have about the room is that there just isn't enough space to have the oversized chairs AND table by the window. I realized they wanted to upgrade with nice oversized chairs, but there just isn't enough space for that plus two beds. My other complaint is the number of outlets, but I know there isn't much they can do about that. They didn't have as many gadgets 40 years ago as we do now, so you're limited to charging in the sink area since the only outlets are behind the beds and are taken up by laps and alarm clock. We went to the pub for New Year's Eve and had a good time with the live band, but I must say the drinks are pretty watered down. I definitely didn't get that "feel good" feeling even after four drinks. We were given vouchers for a free breakfast and it was definitely not a continental breakfast. They have everything you could want for breakfast, including an omelette station.

I would definitely recommend this place for a weekend in the hill country. Nice, clean, comfortable, but don't expect it to have the look of a brand new hotel built in the last few years.

Room Tip: Ask for an updated room.
