Well, the rate was very reasonable, but it turned out to be one of those "you get what you pay for” (sometimes) stays.
The motel had I would estimate 5% occupancy, at most, during our stay, so it wasn’t a case of overworked staff not being able to keep up.
The assigned room had no desk, and as I had work to do, I asked that we be moved to a room with a desk. They had to physically check empty rooms to find one with a desk (you would have thought that the design of the rooms would be something easily researched within their computer system). They did move us to a room with a desk. Unfortunately the air conditioner in that room was not working. The manager commented something to the effect that he had forgotten that the air conditioner in that room was broken. Since the outside temp was in the high 90's, a functioning air conditioner was a must.
They finally found a room with a desk and functioning air conditioner. We noted that there was no hair dryer and both the table lamp and clock on the nightstand weren't working (they weren't plugged in, as there was no outlet on that side of the bed). We were given a (wall-mount model) hair dryer and the maintenance man ran an extension cord from the other side of the bed.
The next morning we drove around to the front entrance to enjoy our "Continental Breakfast" and found the front doors locked and no one at the front desk (which can be seen through the doors). After knocking on the doors for a few minutes, a man came and let us in. We then went to the breakfast room which can only be described as a dismally decorated/appealing room that had one large table and about ten chairs around it. The continental breakfast was a joke, consisted of a choice of bagels, bread and cereal. The bagels and bread were in their store wrappings. The milk, orange juice, margarine and cream cheese were in a small refrigerator. There was a toaster and a coffee maker. That was the breakfast.
We left the room at 8 AM and returned at 4:30 PM to discover that the room had not been made up. When we called the front desk (which had to ring at least 10 times before being answered), the man who answered responded with something like "Oh, you mean your room was not made up?" We asked for housekeeping service and some fresh towels. The maintenance man brought fresh towels very quickly, at which time we complained again about the room not being made up, to which he replied that he would tell the manager. The room was never made up and we didn’t even get a call apologizing for it.
The room was made up the following day while we were out
All in all it was a very disappointing stay. There was an obvious lack of management acumen, coupled with an apparent lack of communication among staff and management.
