“Great place to stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 December 2009

We stayed here for 4 nights in December and loved the place. The hostel is actually a large house, and it has a really comfortable lounge room. There s a tv, free internet, phone for local calls and fuze ball table. The kitchen is fully stocked for you to use and are a couple of bathrooms and a laundry, which you can use for free. They have books, brocheres and maps around to help you out.

The manager Carlos was great, and really made our stay. He recommended a few places for us to go, and he even drove us to a few places. One night we were going Six Flags theme park. It was quite a cold night though, and when we told him our plans he went and got two pairs of his gloves and lent them to us, and also offered to lend us a jacket.

The location is ok, it isn't in the city centre but rather in a suburb of Dallas. But that was ok, it was right near a train station and there are shops and a supermarket within walking distance. The train is the best way to get around. They don't run all night though so you might have to catch a few cabs.

It was a really relaxed place, basically felt like you were staying in someones house. A very quiet, which we preferred. The nights we stayed only 2 other people were there. Great price as well, $20/night.

All in all, highly recommended.

“Comfortable, good value and nice place to stay in Dallas”

I stayed at this hotel for 2 nights in October 2009. It is about 15 minutes walk from Irving rail station about 3 blocks. It is close to the supermarket about 20 minute walk and there is a convenience store across the street. Some people complain about the walking distance but I actually prefer walking for the exercise since we all eat too much when on holidays and need to burn some of it off ! The railway station and bus station is easy to use although the trains are not very frequent. Once you get a timetable you can plan & manage your time in Dallas. Fortworth is not far either, and the airport is only a couple of train stops away. Ivan the manager was friendly and helpful. He's not always there but that doesn't really matter as he is contactable by phone if you need to ask him anything. There are plenty of brochures in the hostel about things to do in Dallas, as well as phone numbers so it makes planning your visit easy. The rooms are comfortable, very resonably priced and the kitchen is large and clean. There is also the usual hostel stuff like TV and free internet access which is handy. There are several washroooms and showers so you don't need to wait around for other people if it is busy. Overall I would rate the hostel as very good and would stay again here.

“laid back, no pressure and good crowd”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 July 2009

The hostel itself is pretty standard set up, nice large kitchen with bathrooms and bunk beds, it has fussball and a dart board, sofas and a tv, internet access and free local calls, although the website we found it on said it had a pool which it didn't. We met loads of cool people there, being one of the very few hostels in dallas. Over the road is a convenience store and about 15 mins walk is a massive Kruger where you can get anything you need. Some advice though would be not to buy a phone card from over the road cos we asked for one that worked everywhere in the states, they assured us it would, obviously knowing we couldnt take it back, and yeah it didnt so wasted $10.
The owner is a really friendly guy who really tries to help with stuff to do and how to do it. Checking in and out times are really relaxed so you dont have to rush or worry or get up really early. Shame its a bit out of town but Dallas is so spread out anyway, and not so good with public transport, its hard to get around anywhere. Overall a really comfortable, safe stay, totally recommended.

“A good place”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 August 2008

A hostel is a hostel. But the good atmosphere and the cool people I met (both the staff and the guests) gave me good memories of Dallas. Oh yes, Ivan is a wonderful person who manages to make you feel at home whether you are from the West or the East. A good place to stop at when in Dallas. As for the profile, 'A Hostel is a Hostel'.

“Great place”

I actually loved this place...

We arrived by greyhound bus in Dallas and got a taxi, on the way I was thinking 'oh my god it's miles from anywhere' but it's kind of ideal....no it's not in Dallas or Fort Worth but it was right in the middle with a train station literally round the corner...whic hgoes to both Dallas and Fort Worth.

We got there late in the evening and the owner wasn't there when we got there as he doesn't stay there at night, so we found our own linen and grabbed a bed each...the owner arrived the next day and showed us about properly and offered us other beds if ours were uncomfortable. This place is literally a 4 bedroom house, the owner is hardly there which I preffered, he has contact numbers to get hold of him for emergencies though. The bathrooms could have been cleaner but I dont think the place had been open long and it seemed to be being done up while we were there, so this place could be awesome in future. There's a big garden where we had a BBQ, and a drive way if you have a car.

The place is a dry area though so if you want alcohol you have to get it from Fort Worth or Dallas.

Would def stay again, atmosphere was great, met some cool people.
