First of all I would like to say I stayed a the Westin Oaks during 2009 and it was the worst hotel experience I've ever had (Read my prior Westin Oaks review). The hotel started renovations during 2010 and ended during 2011, and what a change!
*Lobby/Bar: The lobby is small but really beautiful and intimate, the carpets are nice as well as the furniture. It has a really nice seating area between the front desk and the Street Level Bar. The lobby has the smell of the Westin signature white tea scent which is really nice. The bar is beautiful and has a good size yet it has some really strange hours of operation, it was never open at early afternoon so you are not able to have a drink before you go out to eat (which really misses the point of being a bar), it only opens at night and some early mornings.
*The elevators: It is strange that I talk about the elevators but before the renovations they were really scary. Now they are beautiful and efficient, although one day elevator "D" got stuck with a woman inside, you could hear her screams as she asked for help (I guess this could happen a any hotel).
*The rooms: The room hallways are very standard, all in white with some minor stains on them, they have no pictures, no decorations, nothing, just plain white. In my opinion they do not look nice. The rooms are really nice, they are huge. The furniture is in very good shape and the beds, well they are heavenly. The bathrooms are a bit outdated but nothing to worry about. Nice TV. My room was located at the 18 floor and the view was amazing, ask for a high floor room. I was charged with room internet connection for using my ipad, yet I never got to accept the terms and conditions, i accesed internet inmediately and the charge was made, I thought I wasn't being charged so be careful.
*Restaurant: The White Oak Kithen restaurant is beautiful and the food is great, it continues to have the same great quality that the Zuccini had. Breakfast was the best and the service was very friendly.
*Service: In general terms the service was friendly and very efficient, it seems as if everone is eager to help you. There was only one excpetion wich was a short haired bellboy with an earpiece, he always seemed to be in a hurry and was very bad informed about local attractions, he was kind of rude. On the other side we received excellent attention from Guest Relations Coordinator, Danny Ruiz, he was very accomodating and made sure our stay was great.
*Pool/Gym: The gym is small but good and the pool was inconveniently closed, I hope it is being renovated for I remember the pool area was not very nice.
The Westin Oaks is now better and nicer than the Westin Galleria so stay here, It is a solid choice that beats the Jw Marriott across the street. Look no further and give it a try, itis a great four star. Will definitely go back. Congratulations Westin Oaks!
