“Charming Place”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 January 2012

Just spent a night at the Lancaster, which is in the heart of downtown Houston. The room was comfortable and a bit "shabby chic" with and English Country House feel to it. The bathroom was spacious and up-to-date. The bed was extremely comfortable. They have a tiny lobby to the hotel, but make it welcoming, with free wine in the evening. I didn't eat in the restaurant, but had a night cap there and there was a friendly vibe to it. There is not much of a business center to speak off--just a terminal where you can print out boarding passes. The front desk was very helpful--delivering faxes and calling a cab for me to head to the airport at 4:30am without fuss or muss. I would definitely stay here again. Beats the generic chain hotels by a mile.

“Terrific downtown location for performing arts events”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 December 2011

The Lancaster is an old boutique hotel. Great ambiance and design; the lobby is small as you would expect. At one point - some years ago - The Lancaster was THE high end hotel in downtown Houston. The years have taken a bit of a toll, but it's still the best location if you are in Houston for performing arts. It is literally across the street from The Alley Theatre and Jones Hall (Broadway musicals and Houston Symphony), and two blocks from The Wortham (Houston Ballet, Houston Opera) and Verizon Theater (concerts). The hotel's front desk staff was friendly and helpful. Standard rooms are reasonably sized with a good size bathroom. The hotel needs some a more detailed eye on maintenance; e.g., there was a door-stop missing, some worn carpet, etc. We didn't eat at the restaurant, but did have drinks. Good wine list. Good value for the price with one exception: there is no self-parking; valet only, $30 / night when we were there, so add that in to your cost planning if you're driving. We were on the fifth floor and there was a bit of road noise, so ask for an upper floor.

Room Tip: Ask for upper floor - quieter, as the hotel is on a busy intersection.

“Perfect for Theatre District”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 December 2011

We stayed one night after attending the theatre and could not have been more satisfied. The hotel was clean and service was outstanding. Very convienient to the theatres and restaurants. Only a 2 block walk thru well lit streets to get to Hobby Center. Will stay again.

JB

Room Tip: 307 is a corner room, gave added views

“A Little Old Fashion Charm!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 November 2011

This is a lovely old hotel that has kept its charm and beauty through the years. Originally built in the early 1900's, the structure has been updated to keep it turn of the century charm. The rooms are beautiful, the staff and service is very accommodating and the location is wonderful. Located in the heart of the theatre district of downtown Houston, you can easily include a play or concert. Top that off with a magnificent restaurant (The Bistro) and delightful bar, this place is fit for a grand time with a touch of royalty. We've frequented the past two decades for special events or to just get away, always resulting in a memorable occasion. Highly recommended for travelers and locals.

Room Tip: They are all great, but ask for a corner room if they have one. A real treat!

I would just like to say a few things about your hotel and staff. I had a wonderful time when I stayed at your hotel!! Andrea, who took my reservation was a pleasure to speak with on the phone and had great customer service skills! Also upon my arrival the front desk staff was satisfactory and the Bistro food is Amazing!!!!!! Again I enjoyed my stay and your hotel will always be my first pick when coming into Houston. Thank you!
