I was going to give this hotel just TWO circles which would have put it in the POOR category and although it's really not "Average" by my standards the staff was nice and efficient and they made some efforts: Free Shuttle to MD Anderson, Free continental breakfast (not up to my standards but convenient nonetheless), Free Wi-fi, and they were efficient.
I did not like the room at all. I should have checked it out first. It was very old, very worn and fairly depressing. I booked two nights but left early. The furniture was old, the TV was old, the carpet was super old. It looked like a place do use meth or shoot up--really like something out of a movie but worst. As soon as I entered and shut the door behind me, I noticed two big dead bugs--one cockroach and one grasshopper. Oh, and one live grasshopper. Also, the chair in my room had a huge red stain on it. I wondered why they would keep such an atrocious chair in the room. It looked blood stained. I couldn't bolt my door so I simply moved a few chairs in front it. However, when I inspected the bed, it looked clean. I decided not to use the shower or towels. My sleep was fitful but I did sleep and checked out the next day.
For MD Anderson business, the location and price is great. For people dealing with medical issues who have to pay to stay this hotel is convenient and saves them a fortune on parking fees because the hotel offers a free shuttle service. This is invaluable if you need it. I didn't use it because it stopped running by 8:30 pm.
If I had to answer what I liked best about the hotel, I would say that it taught me to stop being so cheap and pay a bit more for since I could afford it. And the staff was nice and the bed sheets appeared crisp and clean. What I liked the least was the old, run down room, dead bugs and red stain on my chair. I used the room for 7 hours and paid for 2 nights.
For many families, this hotel is a Godsend. I hate to bash it simply because I can afford better but this is my view. I'd never return--unless I was desperate, in which case it'd be fine.
