“A disappointment for a Hilton”

I travel to Houston frequently for business. I always try to stay at a Hilton to get the HHonors points. This was my first stay at the Hilton Southwest and will be my last. As previously stated in other reviews, there is a smell that permeates the rooms. I don't know if it is from pets or smoke, but its not pleasant. Not overwhelming, just not what you expect from a Hilton. The biggest disappointment was the "Gas Card" promo that they are running right now. I asked about it when I checked in, they said sure you get that when you check out. I asked when I checked out; the lady said oh that ended last year. I let her know that it did not. It is still advertised on their web site. I also let her know what they told me at check in. She looked at something and said “oh you didn't book it correctly.” Whatever, just keep it. I get the feeling that no matter how it was booked, they were not going to honor that promotion. I will just stay somewhere else next time, and make sure all of my colleagues know to stay some where else also.

Greetings and thank you for your recent feedback regarding your stay at our hotel. I am sorry that the smell may have caused an issue for your stay. We do have some pet friendly rooms as well as a floor of smoking rooms. If our high occupancy caused us to give you a smoking room, I am sorry.

“New Management lowers the class of the Hilton Southwest”

Stayed at the Hilton Southwest many times over the past 4 years, and most recently this past week. Compared to the last time I stayed there in September, the hotel has less to offer now thanks to the new management/owners. Previously the only problem was parking availability, especially in the evenings when the lot gets completely filled up except for areas that's way in the backside of the building - about 3-5 minutes walk. With this recent stay, I was told that the hotel no longer offers free-breakfast for even Gold VIP members at the hotel restaurant. Instead, VIP members are offered an embarrassing assortment of stale pastries and day-old fruits on the 14th floor lounge. Compared to other Hilton properties, the Hilton Southwest is an older hotel in need of some freshening up to lift it from the 1980's look and feel. The elevators are not in good condition, and the hotel shower offers a very unsatisfying low-pressure experience that I would have expected only from a highway motel. I stayed on a higher floor facing Southwest Freeway, and it was surprising to experience the loud road-noise as if I was on street level. For about the same price or less, you could definitely get much more value than what the Hilton Southwest has to offer.

Greetings and thank you for your feedback regarding your stay. I assure you that Ownership has not changed and I have been at the property for awhile. Our Food and Beverage Director while new is making some creative changes to the Executive Lounge program, however will not be in place for another couple weeks. The new program will include Hot Breakfast Items, Healthy Options and new Beverage program.

Regarding the Breakfast for the restaurant. As a valued Hhonors Gold member, you have a choice in the My Way program for additional points, room upgrade or Breakfast in the restaurant and this has not changed.

We are very excited to show you our new programs and I hope that you will consider us again for your hotel of choice. If I can be of any assistance with future reservations, please let me know.

“OK Hilton but nothing special at all”

I stayed one night at the Hilton Houston Southwest for business. I chose this Hilton because it was very convenient to several meetings I had in the area; otherwise, I certainly would not bother to stay here.

The hotel was just OK. I arrived early, so my king room wasn't available. I gladly took a double room instead just to get in and settled. The room was spacious but very mundane, even for a Hilton. It felt more like a Hilton Garden Inn, to be honest...perhaps with a slightly nicer bed.

The bathroom was small, and the faucet control was ridiculously annoying. It took a number of attempts before I could get the water temperature not too scalding or too cold--it was the most annoying control I'd seen in years. Water pressure wasn't great, either.

Otherwise, it was clean and well-located for my purposes. But nothing to write home about. If you have business in the vicinity, it's fine as long as you can get a good rate like I did; otherrwise, it may be worth looking at other nearby hotels. Next time I visit, I am inclined to look elsewhere.

I will also investigate the temperature control of the bathroom faucet.

“Good hotel”

What this hotel lacks in beauty is made up by it's staff. You can tell this is an older property which has been refurbished. When I checked in, the manager was at the front desk and he was extremely nice.

The room was clean as well as the bathroom. The bed was very comfortable and the room was decent for this type of hotel. I did have an issue with the room next door to me being loud but the manager moved me to another room without any issues.

The buffet breakfast was excellent with lots of options as well as cook to order items.

Room Tip: get a room away from the elevator. They can be a bit noisy with all the traffic.

“It is what it is”

I stay here often on business, I like staying at Hilton properties, diamond member, but I also have a travel budget. This is consistently the lowest cost Hilton in the Houston area and is in a decent location. The hotel is older, they have remodeled, but don't expect the Hilton Amercia's downtown. The staff has always been helpful and the hotel is always clean.
