Tripadvisor calls this the Hilton Houston Plaza hotel, which is probably the official name. It could also be titled the Hilton Houston Medical Center. It is the closest Hilton to all the large Houston hospitals, including the following: Texas Childrens Hosp, Methodist, U.T. and Herman, Baylor Coll., TIRR/UT Dental, M.D. Anderson Clinic/Hosp, St. Luke's, MDAnderson Mays/ CPB Clinic, Proton Clinic, VA Hosp., and Shriner Hosp. I've probably inadvertently ommitted a few. I asked and the front desk said they had a shuttle that took guests almost anywhere within a two mile radius. If so, that would include all these hospitals. This Hilton is a 20 story tower a few miles southwest of downtown Houston. It has a multi-story parking garage which seems about as safe as any parking garage can be.
I had an upper floor room with one king bed. The room was beautifully decorated and very clean, as you would expect at a Hilton. Furnishings in the room and fixtures in the bathroom appeared to be new. The bed had 5 fluffy pillows and was very comfortable. The view from my upper floor northwest room was delightful, overlooking Rice University. The digitally controlled heat worked perfectly. (I've included photos for those who want more details.) (Sorry, apparently my photos are in the wrong format. I'll try to add them later.) Other than room service, I had very little time to use the many amenities, so I won't comment on most of them. They have everything you would rxpect in a large Hilton Hotel. I did notice that they had a 1/12th mile outdoor running track on one of the roofs. (See photo.) One Hilton bathrobe was provided for use. The room was $120.00 US. This may have been an off season price. The room service breakfast was about $20.00. It was tasty, delivered hot, and exactly on time. The room key card must be used in the elevator in order for it to function. Although slightly annoying, this is a good safety feature. You can get to the ground floor without your key card.
Now, why did I almost give 4 stars? I was given my key card at the front desk and went to my upper floor room. The key card did not open my door after repeated tries. I hauled my luggage back down the elevator. While I was at the front desk, two other guests also complained that their cards did not work. Also, I was with a group. We had a total of four rooms. The rooms were separated by 8 floors. This seemed odd and inconvenient because one person reserved all four rooms. Other than these two problems, this was a great experience.
