We purchased a combo motel and Hertz (compact) for 10 days,
and paid in advance by credit card. No problems with this
arrangement, though I am not convinced that we saved much
by going through Expedia rather than direct.
We had stayed in a recently refurbished Extended Stay Deluxe
6 months before (in Houston) and were quite pleased. We
"took a roll of the dice" with this property since it was offered
at the previous name "Baymont Inn & Suites."
The conversion was mostly complete (to Extended Stay Deluxe)
when we arrived. Rooms, hallways, etc. all new in 2007.
We spend most of our time "out and about" so having fancy
motel/hotel digs is not our priority. But CLEAN/SAFE is a priority.
This property was clean as a whistle. The exercise room was
very small, but I was able to use the new tredmill and resistance
equipment. Used microwave to pop popcorn and the fridge
for cans of soda. Free breakfast was very limited to waffles,
bagels and English muffins, plus very nice fresh fruits, orange
juice and tasty coffee.
Like a college dorm, you turn in used towels at the desk in
exchange for fresh. No big deal for us.
A complete maid-provided sheet change and cleaning is just
once a week. Again, no big deal for us.
Locataion isn't the best for vacation-ers (about 20 miles west of downtown on the busy I-10, also known as Katy Freeway -- aprox. 4 miles west of the #8-outer loop). Staff very pleasant,
except the night counter person seemed to have a vocabulary
consisting of one word ..."NO," when we made a request.
Our suspicion was that she was new and handn't been
fully trained. Rather than having a hair dryer in each room,
you had to ask to borrrow one from the front desk. When asked,
her response was "NO, none available." Next morning we
found out a half dozen units were available to use during our stay.
If you are ok with a clean, plain vanilla motel for budget rates
(best rate for 7 days or more), this is a good choice.
