I have stayed at various Extended Stay America's, and certainly my share of 2-star hotels while on the road. I must say that the professionalism exhibited by everyone at this establishment, from my initial check-in, to the various porters, to the check-out, was more in keeping with a 4-star hotel.
Keep in mind that the rooms are slightly smaller than ESA (non-deluxe) in Tomball and Westchase as this was actually another hotel acquired, and then converted. That being said, they did upgrade the bathrooms and kitchens to granite with fairly decent tile.
The rooms' smaller size is certainly not a drawback for singles or childless couples, as the well-designed hanger/closet storage area certainly are better than most suites/hotels. However, the small but nice pool appeals to families, and yet the rooms are on the small side??
Also, Showtime is great but there is a limited selection of cable channels--3 ESPN's, 2 showtimes, but no AMC/ABC family/Travel Channel.
All in all, a great way to spend a night or two, EXTREMELY close to Katy Mills (the key attraction for me), and wonderful personnel who will relax all the rules (within reason). Keep in mind that the hotel occupancy is reasonably high (again, the great rates and convenient, but exurban location) so you may wait a couple minutes for the elevators (if you're not on the ground floor).
The free breakfast is basically self-serve (but again, unlike Day's Inn/Super 8/other roach dens) the OJ is real (albeit concentrate) not the 90% water/10% OJ coloring you get at aforementioned jailcells. Coffee, I take it, is passable (I only drink tea) and the waffles and cold cereal and bagels are more than decent.
All in all, it is the people that make this establishment such a pleasure--by keeping occupancy high, through reasonable if moderately high pricing, coupled with occasional Priceline sales (after about 4 pm--same day) you avoid the long-term trash that infest places like Motel 6 and Super 8 and SOME ( but not all) Day's Inns.
