“Very nice hotel; good theming”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 February 2012

The hotel is downtown, very close to the ballpark (hence the name). It is very consistently themed with baseball pictures on teh wall, drawings, statuettes..... I'm not into baseball (not an American) but I can appreciate that this is a total effort at getting the decor right! Very clean and tidy; a it dark for my liking, as much due t the amount of dark wood panelling but it's a great look nonetheless.

My room was a King Suite; greeat size bed and very comfortable. Well appointed bathroom, TV, etc. My window looked out into the central atrium, which therefore doesn't give a whole lot of light but it's a great effect. The lobby, restaurant and bar are in the centre of the hotel with the rooms on the central side of the floors looking down to them. It's a really cool setup, very unique.

I have to say it was a bit noisy the first night as it was Superbowl, but it was good noisy, very good natured and was all over early enough to not be a problem. I doubt any hotel in USA was quiet that night!

Very friendly and efficient staff, bar and restaurant were great. Wifi was good throughout and a wired connection in the room as well. Just follow the directions when you hook up (ie. turn on your browser and accept - you're connected! And for free, the way it should be!)

Overall a really nice hotel worth staying at.

Room Tip: If you want to ensure you get a quiet room you'r ebetter off making sure you don't overlook...

“Disappointed”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 February 2012

While moving out of our downtown loft we decided to stay here since the bedding was packed. We should have just slept at our loft! After a long day of packing we just wanted a long shower and to go to bed. The young man who checked us in was nice. They were having some kind of function down in the bar. It was echoing throughout the hotel. When we got to our room we could still hear it. So we called down to front desk and after several transfers they gave us to the bar manager. She told us that this function would be going on for a while. She acted pissed off that we were complaining about the noise. So we went down and asked to be moved. Our first room was much nicer but the other room you couldn't hear a thing. We stayed two nights. We don't live in Houston anymore but we still visit. When we do visit we don't stay here.

“Fell short...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 January 2012

Clean rooms, but WiFi access didn't work in my room. Had to hang out in the main lobby to gain access to the Internet. The issue flummoxed their "engineering staff" during my entire stay as they were able to replicate but could not solve.. One would have thought they might offer a room change to possibly alleviate the problem...but no such offer was made.
Kleenex ran out in room (is it impossible to determine when it is running low and just proactively replace?).
Breakfast fare was good but service was inconsistent...luck of the draw...one waiter was disinterested, the other very engaged and attentive.
If you're in town for an Astros game, the location can't be beat. If not, there are far better options in the area.

“Oversold?!?”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 January 2012

Nothing like showing up at a boutique hotel for a conference being held across the street at 12:30 AM and being told the hotel had overbooked and was moving you. At least they had the courtesy to sent the package I had sent there to the other hotel by courier. C'mon guys? Myself and the two others in line behind me all get the over sold message and all you do is move me? You have cost yourself my business forever. I travel to Houston between 10 and 20 times a year. Congratulations.

Room Tip: If coming in late at night, stay elsewhere?

Only complaint is clunky internet access. And that may have been a transient condition. Otherwise, this is one of the more nicely appointed hotels I have ever used.
