Love love love this hotel - I want to move in there. Unfortunately we only got to stay for one night but we'll be back! We stopped in Houston to stay over the night before leaving on a cruise the next day from Galveston. Beautiful rooms, incredible baths. The bedding on the beds is very high quality. I loved the weight of the comforter on the bed - really kept us warm - not like the flimsy excuses for comforters at other hotels that leave you freezing all night.

We had drinks and snacks (try the fries with lemon aioli!) in the bar downstairs on arrival and really enjoyed the ambiance of the lobby area. Later that night, we had dinner in the restaurant and the food was awesome. Room service breakfast the next morning was EXTREMELY fast - I ordered, hung up the phone, got in the tub and they were at the door!

Are stay was split between here and another Houston property during this visit and I have to say that this is a far better level of service. perhaps we expected different things of this beautiful little property but they didn't let us down.

Rooms: Well appointed and clean.
Food: Hot, flavorful and well portioned
Cost: Other than paying for valet (used to it), the value is well worth it.
Service: Leaps and bounds above several other properties.

Comments: There was a lot of buzz recently amongst the staff about the Marriott merger and I have to say they were all very poistive about it. I think it may have added to the positive nature that they extended to the guests.

I could see this being a great place for a romantic get away as well. Boutique style hotel, great management.

Seriously, every time we have to travel through Houston we make a point of staying the night just to stay at the Icon. Sad isn't it but I'm a bit addicted to this hotel. From the red and gold valet parking station, the stunning lobby, beautiful bar and colonial style lifts your greeted with an excellently inviting opening design statement.

We stay in the delux rooms (the are great deals to be had on this hotel on a weekend as its in the business district) which features a huge king sized bed and my favourite feature, the connected bathroom with louvre doors over the tub into the bedroom.

Every single feature has been thought out to perfection and the general style: European boutique meets cowboy burlesque is just the right side of delux and cosy. I've always found the staff to be more than helpful. never used the gym but I'm told it's lovely. Beer prices in the bar are a bit insane.

WARNING/TIP: don't think that because the Icon is smack dab in the middle of Houston's boring business district that thes nothing going on around here. An observant walk round the surrounding streets will reveal a buzzing little scene of cool cafes, cutting edge bars, a fabulous Mexican fast food joint just up the road, galleries, etc etc. If youre really stuck and want a quick bite to eat, there's also the tired looking Italian place on the corner that does a great early bird menu and has friendly staff.

This is the second hotel in I have stayed in that's a part of Marriott's new Autograph Collection. This one is nice as very nice as well. Beautifully appointed and very nice staff. Downtown location.
