“Superb hotel”

I stayed here for a training for three nights in February 2012. I cannot praise the staff highly enough- my companion left his luggage on the airport shuttle and they got it delivered within half an hour. The restaurant has wonderful food with unusual ingredients, and again the staff were obviously well-trained. I noticed that staff came from all parts of the world, so I imagine that many languages can be accommodated. My room was spacious, beautifully decorated and always spotlessly clean. The only downside was location - it is not near the downtown area, and it seems that you cannot go anywhere in Houston without a car. The Galleria Mall is about a 10 minute walk so we spent a very pleasant evening there.
My friend uses a wheelchair and he was impressed with the accessibility features of the hotel.

“An average hotel, disappointing for an InterContinental property”

An industry conference brought me to Houston and the InterContinental Houston. While I usually like to stay at InterContinental properties, this one was a disappointment. The walls in my 10th floor room were paper-thin, such that I could hear the conversation going on next door. There were no mattress pads on the beds and the foam pillows were very uncomfortable (I have never stayed at a "high-end" property where down pillows were not available). The WiFi service repeatedly connected and re-connected, especially with my iPhone and iPad, causing disruptions in my efforts to work. There was no alarm clock in the room. And the banquet service was very mediocre. All in all, I won't return.

“Business luxury”

A traditional intercontinental with all the business ammeneties you would expect. Skip the valet and self park in back right next to where the valet puts your car. The concierge floor on 23 has the comp stuff..food is sometimes off but free drinks and snack times. Front desk staff are really nice. Housekeeping is dedicated so make sure you lock your door cause they sometimes ignore the do not disturb

“Great customer service”

We stay here once a year for a company party. The customer service has been consistently good each year. This time we upgraded to a room on the concierge floor and it was well worth the additional fee. You get a great view from the 23rd floor. It also includes breakfast and an evening reception with food and drinks plus discount coupons for dining in the hotel for lunch or dinner. The proximity to shopping and wonderful restaurants is another big plus.

Room Tip: upgrade to a room on the 23rd concierge floor

“Replace the mattress!”

I have enjoyed staying at this property a number of times both for business and with my family. It is 4-star in every way and is always a good value through Priceline.com. My stay yesterday, however was not so pleasant and the whole reason was very old mattresses. Perhaps some of the floors have newer beds, but on the 4th floor, the room I received had two double beds in which the mattresses were old and worn out. The material on the top of the mattress had no padding whatsoever and you could feel the springs. I took the nice linens from the 2nd bed and used them to make some amount of padding to be able to try to sleep. This is a great property and the staff was great but the bed I had was a deal breaker. I hope to hear that all their mattresses are up to the standards of their competitors soon.
