Previous reviewers have mentioned the hotel renovations which were completed the last day of our stay (Jan 31). Yes, the lobby was a hot mess while we were there, but we found the staff to be extremely kind and generous throughout our stay. Even the construction workers who were tirelessly fixing up the lobby were kind and helpful.
Our room was on the first floor. It was comfortable, modern and exactly what we needed. There was a nice desk area (the desk table actually was on wheels, which was very helpful), two comfortable beds, a decent flat screen (horrible colors on it though) with a variety of cable stations and a good-sized bath with a tub and shower.
The breakfast was completely standard to what I've seen in other Hampton Inns and similar hotels. Fake eggs, sausage or bacon, potatoes, biscuits, make-your-own-waffles, sometimes fresh fruit salad, danishes, muffins, toast, bagels, yogurt and apples/oranges. While the renovation was going on, we ate breakfast in the conference room, but as soon as it was completed breakfast was moved into their new beautiful lobby area.
The hotel does have a pool, but it is outside, so we didn't use it since we were there in January. The exercise room was closed during our stay, but was to reopen the day after we left (Feb 2). There is ample parking for all guests and the hotel is completely handicap accessible (we had a wheelchair and had no problems).
The location is excellent for those needing access to the medical center. The shuttle comes every 45 minutes. When you need to be picked up, if there isn't a shuttle waiting, you call the hotel and they send the shuttle to you. I cannot comment on whether or not the shuttle services anything other than the medical center, however, the hotel is just a block or two from a Metro train station on Houston's light rail system. There is a Luby's directly next door and a Subway just a block or two away. However, there are no convenience or grocery stores any closer than 2 miles away, but if you have a car they are easy to access.
We had a nice stay here and now that the renovations are complete, hopefully you will too!
