We were looking for a last minute get-away just after Christmas and narrowed our search by deciding on Houston and a hotel accepting of dogs. I found Aloft on Priceline and was surprised at the reasonable rate and their acceptance of any type of pet, including dogs of any size!
The downside was that by reserving the room online, there was no way to indicate we would be arriving with dogs, so I called to make sure. The staff was friendly and welcomed our 75 lb lab and 45 lb Boston Terrier mix, no problem.
It was our first hotel stay with the dogs so we didn't stray very far from the room, to test their reaction. We had a drink in the hotel bar during "Twilight"-their version of happy hour-and had really well made martinis for $6.50. Unfortunately, we were away from the room for only 20 minutes before the front desk called our cell phones to let us know of noise complaints from the dogs. The bartender encouraged us to bring the dogs into the bar :-). I can't say that *all* of the other guests were thrilled with our "pack", but most were, and the staff was welcoming and didn't bat an eye.
Unfortunately, the indoor pool was closed the week we visited, but it wasn't a surprise. I found the info ahead of time on the website, but it wasn't posted in an obvious area.
The room was Uber modern-we had to kinda chuckle. More like a studio apartment you might expect to find in a large city, which was fun for us. Yes, no tub, and no little freebie shampoo (bulk shampoo and soap built into the shower), but the shower itself was large and plenty. The bathroom is not very sound proof so you'll want to be very comfortable with your roomie or take shifts if you have "stage fright".
Aloft is pretty close to The Galleria, but not a comfortable walk back if you were carrying bags. The hotel may have a Galleria shuttle. It is in walking distance of the Capital Grille, who also provides the hotel's room service, but the short walk is very worth while for dinner.
I would like to stay at this hotel again, with our dogs, but my suggestion would be to have a "dog friendly" floor or to space out guests to avoid annoying anyone. The night we stayed the hotel was almost empty so it seemed possible that we could have been assigned a room away from other guests.
Room Tip: Ask about being on a floor with other travelers with pets and/or near an exit for easy potty breaks.
