Don't stay here unless you are willing to pay $14.02 for very slow internet access. Even being a member of the Marriot Rewards program doesn't help. I've NEVER had to pay for internet access at a Marriot property before. I will never stay at a Renaissance Hotel again.

My last review banged around the Renaissance pretty good. I cited issues like the hotel starting to look a little dated and being overpriced. I stayed there again recently and I have to back up and admit that a lot of work has been done in the last few months.

The rooms have good com systems (although they still charge $12.95 per day for wifi) and the décor in my room was updated and comfortable. The bar is really nice and interesting and the bar chef knew how to make a GREAT! Maker’s Manhattan. The price for the room still seemed a little pricey, but for what I’ve seen in downtown areas of other big cities I don’t think it was too bad.

Bottomline – I enjoyed this last stay and I think the good ol’ Renaissance is on the right track.

Rooms are a mix of the 80's/90's/ and the 2000's ( layout 80's/bathroom 90's/room de-core 2005/ tv's 2009). Hotel is close to ,many of the fun areas of Houston ( rice village/galleria) but they all require a car or cab to get to. On the plus side they have a full service Starbucks in the lobby, the best concierge staff in the city, and a full food court in the underground office complex which is attached to the hotel. The Renaissance houston is a nice property but not on par with the majority of the other renaissance properties and more inline with a marriott/sheraton.

Stayed here for 5 nights on a business trip. I expected more from a Renaissance Hotel. Cable channels were very limited - did not have Food Network, HGTV, etc. I could hear the TV in the room next to mine - TV was left on all night and disturbed my sleep. Bed was OK. Room was clean. Concierge lounge is available for Silver Elite and up Rewards members. Complimentary breakfast, appetizers and dessert served in the lounge were good. Alcohol was an extra charge. The only reason I stayed at this hotel was because it was close to my meeting location. I'll probably try another hotel in Houston next time.
