“Convenient for Patients”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 January 2011

First of all, I hope you never have to go here because it is only for MD Anderson patients and their families/friends. However, if you do have to go to MD Anderson, this is the most convenient place to stay. I've never stayed in a hotel with syringe disposal before, nor easy access to wheelchairs, I was worried about staying here, especially after reading the review about hearing the toilets flushing all night. I haven't had that problem in my room.

Everything is fine, The hotel tries to make things interesting for the people staying here with musicians, movie nights, etc. It is a short walk over a walkway to get to MD Anderson, and the front desk can print out your schedule. I had 2 packages shipped to me here, but changed my reservation so I wasn't here when they arrived, It impressed me that they saved the packages and brought them to me when I arrived,

There is a convenient shuttle to take guests within a 2 mile radius. The restaurant is fine.

If price is a concern, there is an extensive list of hotel and extended stay options listed on the MD Anderson website. If a long-term stay is cost prohibitive, ask the social worker assigned to the patient for low-cost options. The price at the Rotary House seems OK given its location in a major metropolitan area.

“Convenient but pricey”

We stayed at the Rotary House because it was our first time in Houston and at MD Anderson. Without knowing the area, we felt this would give us time to figure out where everything was. I feel the price they charge for their rooms is too high. Since the hotel is only for MD Anderson patients and their families, I think they could make it more economical so that more people could afford to stay there. As it is, only higher income people would be able to afford to stay there. We also had to pay $6. per day to park in the garage even though we were staying at the Rotary House.
We have made several more trips to MD Anderson since, and have always stayed elsewhere because the rates are cheaper and the accomodations are just as nice as the Rotary House plus the hotels have free shuttles to MD Anderson and free parking at the hotel.

“You listen to toilets flushing all night long all over the hotel”

This location is ideal for MD Anderson patients however you will pay the price by listening to the toilets flushing all over the hotel. They sound like "bombs" going off all over the hotel. Additionally, management made no adjustment on my bill for the inconvenience for 1 night of no air conditioning out of 4 nights stayed. I've tried to call them and escalated the matter to the Manager Omar but he would not return my call. Bottom line.....don't stay here.

“Perfect Choice for MD Anderson patients/families”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 February 2010

This hotel's location and comfort provide nice solace for those undergoing treatment at MD Anderson as well as families and care givers. This is a "no-frills" place to stay but is very clean and has a nice variety of food choices as well as a nice pool/hot tub area. This would never be a place to choose if you didn't have a reason to be at MD Anderson, but if you do, it's a nice option.

“Convenient”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 December 2009

If you have a loved one in MD Anderson, the hotel is a bit pricey but for serious procedures such as surgeries (when your loved one will need you within walking distance), it's a very good amenity.

For the area, it is probably not that expensive, it's just more than I'm used to paying, There is a safe in (most rooms, I assume) and hairdryer and other convenience items. Some have kitchenettes (coffee maker, microwave, small fridge, sink) which are handy if you are staying more than a couple of days.

I think the information available about where to go and what costs there are (5 dollars a day for the parking garage, even if you're staying in the hotel) could be a bit more organized and accessible. I didn't see any maps of the buildings and the motel but I think that would have helped me navigate my first time at MD Anderson.

The beds could have stood to be a bit more comfortable but weren't as bad as some I've slept on. Note: I rarely ever like hotel beds, it's just too hard to sleep in a strange place (on the road) for me and I'm picky about a bed's comfort.
