“A little rough around the edges but OK”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 April 2008

I was looking for an inexpensive place to stay for one night while on a personal/business trip in the area. I saw this on Orbitz and the price was around $60 so I booked. I arrived on the Sunday night but was told that Orbitz didn't fax them a confirmation sheet. Not a problem though as they had enough rooms. The area where the hotel is located is right outside the airport but in a quiet spot. The hotel seems to be an older one but that was alright to me. I checked in fine and went to my room. You can tell that the place was a little rough and in need of some TLC in certain places while walking down the corridor. Once I got to my room, it was like an ordinary room, similar to any Hilton Garden Inn or Holiday Inn express etc. The room was clean along with the bath area but you could tell certain things were a bit on the older side. Still, it was functional and didn't want to make you wonder what might jump out of the woodworking. For a quick stay, consider it especially if you want to save a few bucks over the national chains.

“Stay here if you like roaches and bad service”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 April 2008

It was terrible, just horrible!! We arrived to find a very isolated hotel with green walls and blue carpet. We looked at the room, it smelled terrible, was very humid and despite the A/C being on, felt very warm. We looked in the bathroom and when we turned the light on saw two roaches scurrying into the drain. Gross! As we walked back to the reception desk we noticed the restaurant was permanently closed and the computer room had an "out of order" sign on it's door. We told the front lady about our experience and told her we did not want to stay there. There was no apology, she just told us we would be charged for one night regardless because it was after six (it was 6:30pm). I told her that was not fair since we had just arrived and the hotel was not acceptable. She said because we booked through Orbitz we could not get a refund. I called Orbitz while still there and they told me the reason they could not give us a refund was because the manager had refused to give them a refund. I asked Orbitz about their quality guarantee and they said that as long as the hotel isn't misrepresenting itself on the website there was nothing they could do. I tried to reason with the front desk person to give us a refund but she just became more and more rude, went to a room in the back of the office and refused to come out to help us. I have never had a worse experience with a hotel!! Save yourself a lot of hassle, don't book this hotel and try not to used Orbitz since their guarantee only applies when the hotel is nice enough to refund them and most bad hotels will not be willing to do this.

“Last motel room in Houston”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 February 2008

Missed a connection to Phoenix because of bad weather and arrived in Houston at midnight, and there were NO hotel rooms to be had anywhere near the airport. Went to airport Marriott to use their computers to look online and someone outside directed us to the Marquis. Smoking rooms only were left, but at 1 am, with a 7:30 am flight, I was just glad to have a bed near the airport. The place is kind of frayed and tacky--last refurbished in about 1966 it seems, and used to be a Comfort Inn if the sign on the door was any indication, but it's not scary. The institutional green walls, thin nylon polyester bedspreads one thin blanket and lumpy polyster pillow, rust stains, not to mention the reek of smoke, were not choice, but the desk clerk was nice and took my 'interrupted flight' voucher to give me the lowest possible rate, the sheets and room and bathroom were clean, the hot water in the shower worked well, there was shampoo and soap, the radio alarm clock worked, they had computers in the lobby, and the first van (free) went the 4 minutes to the airport at 5:30 a.m. I hope I never have to stay there again, but for $50, hey, it beat the airport floor.

  • Liked — convenience to airport, price, kept clean
  • Disliked — cheap bedding and unrenovated rooms

“dumpy”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 July 2007

dumpy hotel- room smelled awful, and I found 3 bugs the first time I went into the bathroom (mosquito, silverfish and gnat). Gave me the creeps and I was ready to head out in the morning. I was surprised to see breakfast was included, though it's low quality. It was a very low price though, so if you are looking for cheap and near the airport, and are not picky about bugs and smells, then it's ok.
